Not sure if this is the right forum...

For my mid life crisis, I bought a motorcycle (about 5-6 years ago). I commute on it, and take the occasional ride down to Carthage to hit the Pick-n-Pig (I live in Cary). I’m thinking it would be fun to get a dirt bike to do some trail riding with... But, I have no clue where you can trail ride around here.

Are there places to ride in and around RTP? If so, any recommendations on a bike... Something on the beginner side, but fat-boy capable (I’m 250).

Got any friends that ride if not try to find a group to ride with as it is much more fun and safer if you get hurt or stuck.

Sorry that I cant help you in that area.
Brushy Mtn up near Wilkesboro is really good
I like Uwharrie too

Brushy is awesome

URE is nice, but parts of it are really rocky. Not such a friendly ride on an atv or dirt bike. Just take your time and watch your speed.

My entire family rides off-road (atv). My wife and I ride Uwharrie at least once a month during the open season. The Daniel hill climb is about the only spot I wouldn’t do on an ATV but I’ve seen a bunch of bikes navigate it.

the first time I did danial was only because a novice in our group found his way on to it and I had to go save him after he rolled his quad down a huge embankment. My ass had a death grip on the seat, I am sure you can still make out a starfish shape in the pleather.

Last summer on one of our trips there, my wife and I watched a guy on a trial bike go up and down the rock climb at Daniel probably 50 times. Dude was nuts but he could ride the hell out of trial bike.

I recently acquired a KLR 650 dual sport and have been looking to do some mild trails. It's a top heavy pig (430lbs dry with a 6 gal tank) but I keep hearing it will do anything if the rider has enough skill. I'm getting comfortable on gravel roads but what scares me is the real slow picking through rough uneven/rocky terrain. I'd be up for some dirt road / mild trail riding.
