I just learned that in 1961 the US lost 2 atomic bombs near Goldsboro NC but only recovered all of one of them.
So who is hiding the other one?

Come on man. - I know it has to be one of youse guys!

Well, to be honest, they also lost one on Tybee Island ,never found it

We've talked about this a couple times before. Fascinating story.

Anyone check the landfill?

The water depths where it supposedly was jettisoned into was an average of about 15 or so feet. Theory has it the 4 ton 10 plus foot bomb went in at enough of an angle to bury into the loose silt where it wasn’t able to be spotted quick with 1958 tools (basically from aerial reconnaissance the next morning ... the crash was around midnight 6 or so hours earlier). After that the silt from the Savannah River helped bury it and keep it buried. For the first couple years it was not made public it was an actual functional h-bomb.

Now 65 years later … brackish water in the Wassaw Sound flowing down from the Savannah River and sea water in from the inlet … a mucky loose silt floor of the sound … just how much of the metal casing and core “package” has actually eroded away? The couple hundred pounds of conventional explosives used for the implosion to trigger the start of the reaction should be pretty dead but the half life of the plutonium core is like 90 years and even after then is dangerous. A detonation is not really the threat now … radiation seeping into the ecosystem might be.

They didn’t really lose it, only on paper. I’m sure it’s sitting in an allies bunker somewhere…. 🤣

I’m guessing that if one starts leaking the government will know cause they’ll have to send folks to Israel to fix it.

well, they actually lost three.
Actually, they lost 8, but 2 were recovered. The other 6 have never been seen again. 1 in the Savanna River near Tybee, 1 in a field near Goldsboro, NC, 2 in the USS Scorpion wreck, 1 when an A4 Skyhawk rolled off an aircraft carrier, 1 in the Med when a B-47 went missing. And we have no idea how many Russia has lost and neither do they because they have no idea how many they have built over the years, or how many have changed hands with the Soviet Union dissolution. There’s a rumor that Israel had lost one in the 60s or early 70s, but they weren’t supposed to have one in the first place so it was never made a big deal of! What do you think? Pakistan and North Korea has them so it’s only a matter of time before a terrorist gets their hands on one. India has them as well as France, China and England. Do y’all feel any safer? When Iran gets one, Israel will bomb the hell out of them, UN be dammed. They have no choice. That will really start the ball rolling!
