Outdoor Range near Gaston

CRPC has an outdoor range, but membership is very pricey and club leadership, at least when I was briefly engaged, was very fudd-ish.

Closest public place is likely the Foothills Shooting Complex in Cherryville.

I think there is a public range in Gastonia. Right near the 321/85 interchange. I see signs for it all the time and went to check it out one Wednesday and sign said it was closed that day. Kind of behind the QT I think.

The public range near 85/321 is owned by the city. I know the shotgun part is open for the public but the rest is (maybe was?) for police only. They’d open it like one day a week to let the peasants shoot. No idea if it’s still there. Been 10+ years since I was there.

Thank your for the info.

Nevermind in the pistol/rifle range at Rankin Lake. Closed to public in 2018.

There's Take Aim in Pageland SC. It's the place Classic Firearms shoots all its outdoor videos. I've not been there so I'd check the reviews. Leeds is probably a touch closer from Gastonia, Take Aim a little closer from Charlotte/east Mecklenburg.

There is a private club/range in Richfield.... Membership rates are fairly reasonable... Around $180 a year... We have an indoor Benchrest facility, with 50 and 100 yard targets... An out door 100 yard range, and a pistol pit with steel "Clangers" and a place for targets... The first 3 Saturdays of each month we have scheduled matches which are available to members and Non Members alike... The first Saturday of the month is Rimfire Benchrest @ 50yards... We have 3 classes of shooters, Factory class, Vintage Class, and Unlimited.,, The second Saturday is Action Matches, which involve rifles, pistols and shotguns and the 3rd Saturday is Centerfire Benchrest matches... Most matches are over by early mid afternoon,.... Range is open to Members 7 days a week... And like I said, all matches are open to the public... It is a good way to visit the range, meet members, and get a feel for the club... If you would like any more information about us, you can reach me at 704-290-8690 or [email protected] .... Richfield is about an hour from Charlotte ---

I will check out a few. Never heard of Leeds. Again I like being outdoors and not packed inside with many shooting.

Back in the day Leeds was awesome. You could take washing machines, and other junk to shoot. But the stopped that because people would carry their trash out. It has always been free but about during Covid they had a sign up saying they was going to start charging 5$ a day if people didn’t start cleaning up. Not sure if the did or not.

Leeds is $5/day or $50 annual membership now.

Foothills Shooting Complex might be an option for you. I’ve never been there but a few friends have and said it’s decent for a public range.
Foothills is actually pretty nice. Steel range for handguns/PCC's and one of the longer rifle ranges in the area (250 yds) unless you want to take a 2-3+ hour drive somewhere like the Sawmill down in Laurens.

Guess it depends on what “near” means to you, and how close you are to I-85. Several of us are members at PHA, which is a couple minutes off Exit 84 (up past Salisbury). Not a bad drive for me from north Charlotte.
