The Sig P365 has interested me since it was released - a compact 9mm that holds, what I consider, a 'good' amount of rounds
Looks like 10 or more in a mag
But when I view the site, Im a bit overwhelmed by the variants (not colors, but normal - x - xl - micra or something etc)
Im looking for help from my CFF brethren: what do I need for a carry gun?
I dont think that I would be looking for a optics-ready pistol, ideally something that'd fit in my back pocket of my jeans

Also - what's real-world pricing like on these different guns?
Color doesnt bother me, honestly. Black is good but Im down for [almost] whatever

P365 (no extra letters) is the smallest, and probably the only one that could realistically fit into a jeans pocket (albeit with poor concealment). I realize that advice is not universal, as some people wear freakishly large jeans.

Holds 10 rounds in a flush fit magazine, but also takes 12 rounders and 15 rounders. I've seen online deals in the mid-$400s range over the last month or so, and I think a $500 pack that came with three mags and maybe a cheap holster or something. You'll also want to budget for a Maglula magazine loader if you don't have one. The magazines are so tight that they're almost impossible to fully load by hand (I am a young guy with no arthritis).

Mine has a nice finish and no malfunctions so far (have only shot good JHP and FMJ brands out of it). Shoots "lower" than what I am used to with my other guns, which Sig says is due to their sights being designed for a "combat hold" in which you fully cover the aim/target point with the front sight. I do wish it had a flat trigger with a trigger safety for extra piece of mind, since I carry AIWB.
MAKE SURE YOUR HOLSTER FULLY COVERS THE TRIGGER. You can also get a version with a manual safety, but I don't like those.

I would either go with the P365, or the Macro, the P365 has a flush fit 10rnd mag, however will except the 12 and 17rnd mag barrel length is 3.1"

The Macro has a flush fit 17rnd mag 3.6" barrel full length rail under barrel for weapon lights/lasers etc

depends on how you are going to carry both in my opinion are easy to conceal.

When it comes to rounds per bad guy, the macro gets my vote!

Sig has MAP pricing so If interested in what our pricing is feel free to Message us.

I pocket carry a "regular" P365 with a Grey Guns straight trigger more than any other carry gun. It has the manual safety which doesn't bother me, but it's easily removed.

The nice thing about the P365 is once you get a FCU, you can start mixing and matching parts.

I would recommend getting the smallest grip that you can get your entire hand on. I have found that firing a pistol that has a grip with my pinky hanging off my accuracy drops dramatically. For me this was the “X” version but if you get your entire hand on the 10 round grip go for that.
I would also recommend getting the optics ready version. It gives you the option to add it later and does help with resale if you choose to sell it later on.

As far as pricing new expect to pay ~$500 for the base P365 on up to $600 for the X and XL versions. Macros will be in the $700 range.
If you are in the Triad I would check out Mace sports which has good prices on Sigs and have an extensive selection of P365 parts so you can build your own right there to suit your needs.

I like the regular 365 for normal carry for me. Which is inside the waist band of a pair or athletic shorts. I also have the 365XL bit the weight of the standard with 10 rounds is best.
It shoots good for the size and you can get the 12 round mags with a sleeve that will flush mount if you need more grip.

Use this tool to compare the dimensions of the P365 variants ...
the tool has visual stills in multiple aspects as well as an overlay view option, with variable transparency of the selected options

you can look at size-similar non-Sig options as well:

and non-size-similar popular carry options, like this one:

I have the XL and have carried it daily for a coupla years OWB. The Wilson grip module helped it fit my hand well.
Kris carries an X model AIWB. I only got the XL cause that's what showed up used at one of my regular LGSs.
The EPS Carry is an excellent optic option. I had an 507k on it for a while but like the EPS much better.
The only times I swap to another carry piece is if I want "swim trunks light" summertime (P3AT).
Or a full size w/extra mags for occasional trips into shitholes. 🤠

My local shop has several used. I think they run @$400-$650 depending on optics, lights, etc. They reopen on Thursday. Let me know if you want me you forward you a list of what they've got.

I don't keep up with them, as I'm generally a Glock guy. I got asked to buy one for a friend by his wife for Christmas and she reimbursed me. Problem is when I agreed to do this, I thought there was like 6 variants... 😅 😆

I went on SIGs site and found about 34ish models. I went to a LGS and they had an XMacro with red dot. I wasn't sure about it for him as it's the largest one I'd seen, and didn't know if he's like the red dot sight (mid 70s male). The red dot is their cheapest one I think. AFTER I bought it two very knowledgeable P365 guys I know that run them and shoot them BOTH told me the XMacro was "too big" and the red dot was known for not holding zero.

While the red dot is an unknown right now for this gun/this shooter, the gun fits his big hands well and he likes the size. So I'm relieved that issue (size) isn't an issue for him.

Hopefully not too off-topic and won't start a flame war, but why do people prefer the P365 over the Springfield Hellcat?

Cause the Sigs don’t do modern Sig things like fire when you drop them. And the hellcat is ugly af and has a habit of breaking extractors like the small XD’s do.

I’ll also pick US made vs Croatian crap any day of the week.

I carry the P 365 original version everyday with a 12 rd mag the only mod I have done is put a hogue grip on to add extra grip traction

Don't discount the 365 SAS. That is if you like the Meprolight bullseye sight embedded in the slide. My S/O loves hers and shoots it well.
I have the 365 SAS and really do like it. Was a bit of trouble adjusting the sights at first, but since all good. Only thing is that the trigger is light and it being my first striker-fired pistol I’m not comfortable carrying it. Need to get to a dynamic range and work off those concerns.

I could have just as easily ended up with a Hellcat Pro. I really liked those, too.
The 365XL just showed up used first and I've seen no reason to stray from it thus far.
It goes bang every time, hits where I aim and throws the brass all over the place. 🥴 🤠

Regular 365 w holosun 507k x2 in a tier 1 axis elite AIWB is a pretty perfect setup for me

I’d still recommend getting the optics ready in case you want to go that way at some point.

Plenty of folks have on here have different models for you to test drive

I actually like the small grip on the regular 365

The hellcat while very similar in size but was less comfortable on the web if my hand.

This has been my experience. I shot a friend's Hellcat with 124 gr. +P HSTs and it was quite unpleasant. I assumed that was just a small gun quirk though.

Kinda late to the party. I cant add much because my only real experience is with the standard ol'P365. But I will say that I love this little pistol.

As I have mentioned before, I turned it into my EDC pocket carry piece. It is just big enough to fill the pocket without being overly bulky and obvious. Makes reaching in there to get a grip on it easy. I also have holsters to OWB/IWB it, but its just so much simpler to drop it in a pocket.

Being a gun nerd, I orderd the wilson grip module and I do like it. It has a place in the grip to add some tungsten rods that add some heft to the rear of the pistol and helps balance it out. How much it helps, I really cant say.

I also added a TLR light to it, and it also adds a bit of heft to it.

All in all, it isnt a "Oh wow! Let me show all my friends my sweet pistol!" kinda thing...but more of a "Yay...I finally have something reliable, concealable, and has a decent capacity that I can actually shoot with."

I have the P365 X .That version gives you a flat trigger instead of the curved and is optic ready and keeps the rear sight if you add an optic. It comes with 12 rd mags but will take the 17 rd ones.I have kept mine stock, but may try a regular 365 grip module just to get it a little more "pocket" friendly. I pocket carry in dress slacks with an Alabama holster but in most jeans it is too tight so I carry IWB. I actually wanted the Hellcat for a long time, mainly because I have had an XD40 and XDS 9 mod.2 in the past and thought they were excellent for reliability .I also liked the hellcat rear U sight, but after shooting one and a 365,I personally liked the 365 better, along with the modularity feature.

Would someone post a pic of a regular 365 grip module sitting on top of their 365 with the wilson grip module? I have small hands, but I’m half a pinkie off the gun and adding 5-10mm to the grip might make it even better.

I'll do it when I get home this evening. Seems the length is the same, but the palm swell is bigger. I have big hands and the WC "fits" my hand more comfortably.

( fatter left to right, and longer front to back )

I have a regular P365 and a 365XL. I actually can shoot he regular 365 very well, because my hands are small enough to where I can scrunch (is that a word?) all my fingers under the trigger guard to get my pinky on the grip. This tight scrunching of all the fingers gives me a very stable shooting platform.

I had a regular 365 and really enjoyed it a lot. I ran several different set ups on it from 10 round mags and the original frame to 12 rounds mags with the extension. I always carried a 15 round mag as a spare ( they don’t make that one anymore ) and I settled on a Wilson combat grip with 12 round mags. It was the “ x” configuration basically. I carried it in a RR kydex OwB or a Badger state holster IWB and it rode well either way. I did have some issues with the sights and rusting magazines. Sig fixed both. They shipped me the sights and also a new magazine to replace the rusted one. I sold it but will be getting another one in 2024 if all goes well.

Most of the pluses/minuses have already been mentioned, but I'll throw my 2 cents in below anyway. I would suggest checking them out in person, decide which options you want, then buy the one that ticks the most boxes. Like you, I wanted a small carry pistol and the basic P365 was my starting point. I picked up the 'TACPAC' version, which came with the small grip module, a throw-away grade holster, and three 12rd magazines for $549 at Fuquay Gun. It's also optics ready if I want to add a red dot in the future. They are available without the TACPAC configuration, but since SIG mags aren't cheap, I liked getting three 12rd mags instead of two 10rd mags.

I did decide to add a safety shortly after purchase. Unlike the P320, all P365 fire control units (aka FCU, the serial numbered component of the pistol) are capable of having a safety installed. Grip modules are available both with and without the safety cutout, and the ones without are easily modified to take them.

Since the majority of the time I carry OWB, I decided to add an X grip module, which will fit the 12-rd mag with flat base plate. I tried the Wilson Combat version but prefer the OEM. I also added an Armory Craft extended magazine release to make it a little easier for me to drop mags. When I choose to pocket carry, I can easily switch back to the small grip module and flat base 10rd magazine to make it as small as possible.

Really, do you know if it is possible to buy the safety parts, file a notch in my SAS grip module and install? I’m just used to having a thumb safety.

In Short yes, they do make grip modules with the safety cut for it, we have been working on 365's for several years adding the safety to the fcu can be a challenge, but not impossible.

From everything I've read (and I've read a lot ;)), yes.

I'm not sure how old your P365 SAS is, but many of the recent grip modules have markings on the inside to use as a template to cut the notch for the safety. If yours doesn't have them, you can buy a 3D printed template from eBay to use with a Dremel. I didn't know about the markings when I got my 365, so I bought the template even though I didn't need it. The seller also has a video on cutting the module using the template.

When I carried my 365 it was almost exclusively with the X frame and flush fit 12 rounders.

I also changed the trigger to a flat trigger and lighter springs myself. Unless you really want a new trigger I wouldn't recommend it. The trigger pull wasn't different enough for the amount of effort used for the task. Though I did like swapping to the flat trigger I like it better than the curved trigger.

Im probably going to try these at some point

At Michael & Billy’s suggestion maybe a year ago I acquired the components, but have yet to shoot these from the 365. I expect all of their loads to be engaging.

I pocket carry a 365xl with red dot on occasion. Today was one of those. And then was trying on some new pants for work20231229_183106.jpg
