I hunt mostly pines when I go deer hunting. I want to rattle can my deer rifle to match. What pattern should I try to replicate? Thanks

bark colored dark brown mixed with light colored pine needle brown? maybe a little bit of green for underbrush, depending on presence of underbrush in the area.

I'd go with dark brown, a medium tan, and some green. for patterns, I've always painted the rifle my lightest color, and then paint spots and stripes in progressively darker colors.

When it comes to camo, the colors and patterns aren't as important as it might seem at first glance. Camo's job is to break up something's outline. If you can't tell what it is from 30 yards away at first glance, Its working.

Whole gun OD Green, then stripe it a light green and brown for three color stripes

Take 3 branches of pine needles
place 1 branch over OD Green spray Brown through the needles
place 2 branch over light Green spray OD Green through the needles
place 3 branch over Brown, spray Light green through the needles

I've taken deer that were flat out staring at me, while wearing Elmer Fudd red lumberjack flannel. Camo's still cool, though. For pines, I'd throw in a bit of red-brown (primer?) for good measure.

That red flannel under a deer vision filter looks a lot like some camo for breaking up an outline with the black stripes etc. It's actually not that bad. But I agree, being still is a bigger deal than being full on ghillie.

Deer have also stared at my Guinness for Strength t-shirt from 10yds away, right up until I put a 240gr XTP through the boiler room & out the offside shoulder.
