Had recently seen a sign for the local Office Depot in Pineville (just outside Charlotte) going out of business. Did a little bit of digging after seeing some Facebook rumors, and it would appear that at the moment, it is slated to become the next PSA location. There's no timeline presently, but the town council voted to approve the necessary amendment changes in November of last year.

For reference, this is less than a 5 minute drive from our monthly lunch at the Pineville Tavern. If you though the PSA Denver store was crowded, hold on to your britches.

Why another Charlotte location? What about triangle or triad in NC?
1) I believe they are already the owner of the building
2) Population density and location. That spot is primo - across the street from the mall, right off I-485, on a major road. Much better location than Hyatt and Carolina Sporting Arms - they are going to eat into each of those two customer bases massively.

This could be bad news for those of us with weak willpower. The only thing stopping me from buying more from their site is the added shipping costs but if I can pick it up so close I won’t have an excuse anymore. 🤪

Looking forward to having a decent store not too far away!

I'd be excited about this if I hadn't just driven an hour each way to the Denver store today to find they had NOTHING I wanted to look at. They're on my naughty list right now.

I’m hoping they’ll carry much more inventory given the square footage of this building. The Office Depot had a huge sales floor but also served as one of their main warehouses/distribution hubs.

That's like 5 minutes from my apartment, 10 minutes from my job. I had just seen that Office Depot last week, and thought it was odd it was going out of business. This could be amazing.

I'm glad it's in NC.
Bad enough I can buy ammo and rifles there, at least as a SC resident I can't walk in and buy handguns.

Like that will stop me.
Sure you can. You just can’t take it with you when you leave. 😝

I’ve been contemplating a purchase. Spent an entire weekend trying to get ANYBODY on the phone to tell me what, if anything, they had in stock. I was prepared to make the 3 hour roundtrip but only if I could be sure there would be something to see. Call them and you get crickets.

I’m not defending them for not answering the phone. There’s no excuse for that, but that store is ridiculously busy on the weekends. You might have better luck calling on a weekday.

Greensboro really does need a brick & mortar PSA, not that I’d have any more money to spend or anything, but having access to “smalls” locally would be awesome.

Triangle here in NC can really use a PSA. They could be over by the 440/US1 shopping area. That would pull the Raleigh folks, Fuquay, Holly Springs, Garner Clayton area easily.

Property cost would be quite high, but I'm sure they could secure funding.

No, you prolly won't.
The previous week I'd seen they had the ammo I wanted listed as in stock, I called and actually got someone on the phone in several tries.
Went in and picked up my ammo. No problem. Cleaned'em out of that particular SKU.
Skip ahead to this week and the site sez it's in stock. I figger they must have restocked but wanted to verify so I tried calling them for 2 days no less than 6x a per day before finally just driving the hour there. And yep, out of stock.
I know they're busy. When we got there it looked like the counter guys were all helping someone but the kid on the register looked bored.
If the lil Mom-n-Pop joints can find the time to answer the phone then so can PSA. Or get their chit together with the real time inventory. 🧐 🤓

Yeah would be nice if they would show store inventory. Also, prices online often are different than in store but at least they will honor online pricing if it’s in stock online and in the store(which seems odd that it has to be in stock on both). New to this forum but you guys being a lot of useful information forward. Enjoying it!

I have not found the stores to honor the online pricing since they are run as separate businesses. Neither the Denver store nor the 2 that were in Columbia, Farrow Rd or Fernandina Rd. I used to be able to order stuff and have it shipped to the store off Farrow Rd and not have to pay for shipping.

I’ve never been able to ship to the Denver store but if they have the product in stock online and in the store, they have always honored the price for me. Shop there a lot.

Same here, my wife is gonna kill me.

they do…but you gotta scroll all the way down below the reviews to see it…

And it comes with this warning:

I wonder how long it will take to get the property ready

It took a long time to convert the Myrtle Beach location

I am hoping that Mr West's Outpost comes back with a revitalized customer counter. For a while, before their unfortunate encounter with the attempted break-in, it was truly terrific to have a 1st-tier distributor with local retail inventory here in the Triangle area.

Don't worry about having things shipped in for pickup - that is something PSA does not do in the Denver store, notwithstanding three years of promises that storage space was being built out.

It is lot of fun to roam through the retail stores, but don't go expecting to buy specific items that are "in stock." PSA has the worst in-store inventory system of any successful business I have ever encountered. During my most recent three visits, the Denver store had none (zero, zip zilch) of the 4-6 items I was searching for at each visit, even though every single item showed "in stock" for the store on PSA's website. And if you are lucky enough to have someone answer a phone call to confirm an item's status, they may or may not know any more about the inventory than you do unless they physically put eyeballs on specific items (and it is really not fair to expect employees to search the store for lists of items).

The Farrow Rd store has been closed for a while. I’m not sure if they still use that space as a warehouse, which I think it mostly was, but there is no retail there at all now. Fernandina Rd is the only one in Columbia, but two in the Charleston area and two in the Bluffton/Savanah area. I’d always heard they wouldn’t put a store in Rock Hill SC because they were “friends” with Nichols Store, so Pineville is surprising to me.

Well boys here's a follow up on PSA CS.
..On 10Feb I sent off a complaint via the website about phone and inventory issues. Got the usual canned response stating they'd received the feedback. No problem. SOP. Got an email 13Feb notifying me that my issue had been escalated. Today when I got home from the hospital and got free of the effects from anesthesia I saw I had a VM on my phone. Checked it and it was a CS rep from PSA. Called the number back and talked at length with @Patrick_PSA about witnessed issues. Super nice guy. Sounds like the rest of us and in honesty seemed bout as frustrated with some of the issues as we do. And having been on both sides of the counter, I can see that and kinda "feel their pain" as the solutions are prolly not as simple as they may seem on the surface. I really liked the analogy of "tryin to wax a car doing 70 down the highway".. 🤣🤣
Anyways, he made a wonderful effort to "make it right" and I'm very satisfied with the outcome.
I'm looking forward to any improvements that may come about with inventory and communications. We'll see..
IMO it's in everybody's best interest that they, and every other legit entity in the gun biz does well.

tl;dr- PSA is havin growing pains and I'm satisfied with the way they handled these CS issues. Lookin forward to improvements.

I hope the conversation allowed you to mention that our conversations here relate that you aren't the only one. I drove an hour each way to come home empty handed after their inventory system said that whole rifles, uppers and lowers showed in stock when they weren't. That doesn't encourage me to ever go back unless I happen to be in the area anyway. That was like $15 in gas and two hours of billable time I forfeited.

I did.
And he acknowledged that there are definite issues with the inventory system and getting someone on the phone to verify stock.
He wanted to be tagged in this thread to see if he could help. I know there's been other threads but I currently disremember where.
All the PSA gear I've personally had experience with worked out nicely and at a fair price.
I can buy their AAC ammo cheap enough to roll with it for GPs duty and making empties for refilling later.
The most issue I've had with their gear was a persnickety 6.8SPC barrel I hadta try a buncha different load combinations in.
But it tightened up fine.

FWIW I'll be there tomorrow afternoon if anybody wants verification of stock status.
Apologies to @Supermatch for the hijack.

@HawgBonz, did they get the ammo in that you were looking for? I did see it in stock online in an email earlier this week.

FWIW, Cabelas inventory system got me today. Guy on the phone says they have a lot of .223 Drove all the way to Ft Mill looking for 75 grain .223 that they were supposed to have. They had a lot of .223 if you wanted 55 grain. Not a single .223 hunting or match cartridge to be found.

I find it helpful to have exact product/UPC/model numbers and such at the ready for call in stock checking. Leave as little room for screwin it up as possible.
If there's humans in the mix, goofs will happen. And their computers depend on them. 🙄😁😎👍
