I just picked up a brand new Ruger 10/22 (thanks... you know who you are!) and am thinking of fitting it out for Appleseed shoot.
Anyone know of the best peepsights to put on this one?

thank youTech Sights, the TSR200 model.
Williams Fire Sights. They have a fiber front and a peep rear. Only around $45 on Ebay.
Curious as to what about these sights doesn't make it for Appleseed? I couldn't find anything that prohibited them. Not for an Appleseed gun.
And I highly recommend doing an Appleseed.
Appleseedinfo.org has a complete guide on how to set up a Liberty Training Rifle, which has all your answers Tans.

Yes it does. I am generally aware of Appleseed but have yet to actually attend an event. I have tech-sights on my Marlin but want a more visible front post for hunting. But since someone else mentioned being able to swap the front post on the tech sights, I'll look to do that. They don't prohibit anything safe. Run what you brung. But some things definitely work better than others. Better to struggle with learning the skills than with your equipment.
The firesights are ok for some things, but not as precise and not as adjustable for zeroing as tech sights. The goal of tech sights is basically to replicate military peeps like on a Garand or similar.
The short version of the Appleseed marksmanship goal is reliable 4moa shooting with iron sights on a service grade rifle. Minute of man at 4-500 yards. At 25 yards, that's a 1" target. Firesights are definitely an improvement on the stock sights but not in the same league as military style apertures for precise shooting.
The tech sight front sight post is about 4 MOA if I recall correctly. Or maybe 8, been a while. Either way, the flat square end is easy to center on or under the exact target horizontally and vertically. Firesight front sight is not as crisp or as suited to precisely placing on the target. If I recall the one I have in the back of the safe it is much larger and round on top. No bueno.
Does that help?
Eddie, I have a set of Tech Sights you are welcome to if you want. You know where I live, you helped me move....lol.

That's cool! Do they sit at the same height as the tech sights?I like Tech Sights. I have a Tech Sight front sight on my Ruger 10/22 based LTR. But I have a Nodak rear sight with integral Picatinny rail, like this one, from http://www.nodakspud.com/ I can add an RDS on a low mount to co-witness if I want. It also feels a little more robust, since it's fastened to more of the top receiver.

It's close; I have not measured with calipers. I'll get some photos in the next day or so. I'll toss an RDS on there too. That's cool! Do they sit at the same height as the tech sights?
I could easily see a Burris FF3 sitting atop of that.
Do you find the Nodak rear is as accurate as the Tech Sight rear when paired with the Tech Sight front?View attachment 21378 View attachment 21379 View attachment 21388View attachment 21383View attachment 21381 View attachment 21382 View attachment 21384 View attachment 21377View attachment 21376View attachment 21380
Here are some pics. Again, this is the Tech Sight front and Nodak Spud rear. The pics aren't the best, but I was using an iPhone at night, with only two hands I miss my old manual Ricoh 35mm SLR - it would focus where I told it to
Some photos have the red dot and some don't. The rear sight has the same style dual aperture flip as an AR carry handle sight. The pic without the RDS has the small aperture up. Also tried to take some looking through the aperture (had to use the large), and some with the RDS. Best I could do there was raise the camera to look through the RDS, to see the dot. I don't keep an RDS on this rifle, but threw one on there to give an idea of the sight base utility.
I can't tell any difference. They both have dual apertures (large and small). The only possible differences I could see would be:Do you find the Nodak rear is as accurate as the Tech Sight rear when paired with the Tech Sight front?
