Here it is next to my rock island 38 super.
Owned several 6906s and a 6904 in the past. Excellent handguns that shared the same manual of arms with the M9 I was issued at the time. Same size and weight of a G19 or Colt Lightweight Officers.Just picked up a police trade-in from AIM Surplus.
Behold a Gen 3 Smith & Wesson 6906 9mm.

After an extensive cleaning - it was filthy - you can see plenty of wear. Looks like it was used as a club and possibly a hammer. However, the barrel looked factory pristine and the magazine was in excellent condition. Even the follower looked new! Cosmetic issues aside, it is like a tank and should have lots of life left.
@SmokeyJoe Congrats on grabbing that pistol.
If you’re extra lucky, I may have a way for you to replace that beaten grip. If you’re not aware, nearly 30 years ago, Smith issued a recall for the grips on many 3G models, including yours. IF your grip doesn’t have that small dimple on the grip, Smith should replace it FOC. Last time I did this, I simply emailed them the S/N of the gun along with photos of the frame (showing the S/N) and the bottom of the grip showing lack of the dimple. A week or so later, a shiny new grip arrived.
Do you feel lucky?

@SmokeyJoeI would doubt the thing has seen fifty rounds! The barrel is so shiny with zero external wear marks, it may not have been shot at all after the factory test. Bizarre.
