Pistols,, what wears out first.

Well, this is going to be a stupid question. I really like this VP9. Since it's my EDC should I buy another one as a range gun?
Not a stupid question, just some stupid answers (mine).

Springs are the first things to usually go bad. Luckily, springs are usually not very costly.

I had a USP40 that I owned for almost 14 years. It had at least 14k through it when I sold and nothing ever broke in it. It still ran as good as the day I bought it.
I did change the recoil spring at about 10k.

Crap. When that goes, the panametric fam is next.

I think Vickers makes a titanium replacement.

Recoil spring is the first to go. If the manual doesn't say, you can probably email HK and they'll tell you what the replacement interval is. I did that with Glock (not sure why they don't just tell you in the book). 10k on the gen4.

My first gun was a Smith and Wesson model 910. I fired more than 20,000 rounds through that gun when I finally traded it in on a Colt 1911. Never had to replace any parts and it always ran like a top. The slide to frame fit was really loose though when I got rid of it.

I have a 9mm XDM 5.25 that has approx. 15,000 rounds through it and it is not showing any wear except for some of the finish. Everything is original except for the Powder River Precision trigger kit.

It's a good idea to buy recoil springs when you don't need them, so you already have them when you do need them. They're extremely cheap, so it doesn't take much to have one or three on hand for each gun that you regularly shoot.

Depends on the gun.

With many CZ’s, the trigger return spring and the slide lock can go around he time of the springs needing a change.

Worth it having those parts in the box.

I had an early model made with prefabalated amulite which was replaced at no charge by the manufacturer.

I think @Chdamn had problem with the girdlesprings in his

The other thing is the fetzer valve, but at least it’s all ball bearings nowadays

I have put 1200rds through my VP9 so far this year. What part will wear out first. How long is the barrel good for?
For most it’s the desire to improve. If you get over that hump then it’ll probably be the recoil spring or something.

Several have said it, but springs will be the first parts to wear out. You'll still likely get a few thousand rounds out of them if you shoot to failure.

After springs, the extractor will probably be the next part to wear out. It will wear a little faster shooting steel vs brass cased ammo.

The gun frame and slide will probably outlast you unless you're a professional competitor. The barrel should last until the accuracy starts to drop off, which will probably be anywhere from 15K-20K rounds, and maybe more.

Unless he has a higher quality Century/ Canick made in Turkey. ;)

Canick says they give accuracy guarantee of 2.5” after 60,000 rounds on the tp9sfx.

For most of us average shooters it’s hard to wear a handgun barrel out to a point we will notice a difference in accuracy. Fast rounds in rifle barrels are a different story

The Caniks are awesome! - I have two now, including the aforementioned SFX. Not only that, but they are so cheap you can just buy another gun when the barrel wears out!

As for the thread, as everyone said Recoil spring... My 229 Legion recoil spring gave up the ghost at 12 k rounds (your supposed to replace it at 5K according to the manual ) They run about 11 bucks so buy a few, shipping costs and all that.
