Pit Bull jumped at my kids this morning. This is the still shots from 2.0 mp security cameras, reason for poor quality. I’m sure y’all didn’t want to see me on video moving in my underwear. Kids are fine, it just did get my daughter’s sleeve. No bites to my kids. Dog did go after their arms.

I proceeded down from porch when it got more aggressive with my children. When dog turned, ran toward me, and my children were clear, the problem was taken care of. Authorities were notified and reviewed video, said they’d of done the same thing.

Another Neighbor says it was playing, sorry I don’t let pit bulls play with my kids. This is too aggressive, especially given the breed. Dog was loose all night, got into and turned over my trash. Kept my dogs inside the house barking all night.

I'm sure the dog was turning its life around, on its way to church choir practice, and just wanted to play nicely with your kids.

Good that it was, taken care of.

damn man. That could've ended up alot worse than someone's dog eating a bullet. Glad you and your kids are safe. I've grown to really like those dogs but I absolutely would like to kick in the teeth of some of their owners.

My brother in law got 2 APBTs about a year and a half ago, and kept them penned up. Now they get to run inside a fenced yard and they're as likely to lick you to death as anything - just sweet sweet dogs. But that one had bad owners and turned bad.

Good on you for vigilance, watching your kids. I hope they're okay!

good you saw and was able to act.

Sorry the kids had to go through that, my grand were scared crapless when some of our dogs started fighting amongst themselves.

I bet it wasn't going for the arm. Probably the neck. One less danger in the neighborhood, and nothing of value was lost. Very good thing you had a security camera in place and were prepared to deal with the problem.

I have a scar across my chest from when I was younger and read meters for the local electric co-op. Pitbull broke a chain and went for my neck. Luckily I had several layers of clothes on and it didn't quite hit the mark. Emptied a whole can of mace into it's face and kicked it several times before it let up.

Then it's owners come out in their underwear (at 2 in the afternoon) hollering at me through meth teeth for hurting their precious baby while I bled through my clothes. Some people shouldn't own dogs.

Glad I don't live near you. My dog plays exactly the same way. She's a pup - I try to discourage it but they have lots of energy.

I get the papa bear instinct and I wasn't there so WTH do I know, but your pics don't look like a pit bull attack to my eye. The look like an excited playful dog that didn't know how to act.

I have a close friend who is a professional handler, so I sent him the stills (hope OP doesn't mind) and him and I agree.

    That dog is not playing.

@Silver_Bullet not that my opionion carries any weight, but I feel like you made the right choice.

Im glad that didn't end poorly and that dog isn't being playful, that's a takedown try.

I love dogs way more than people but that was necessary.

Same opinion animal control officer had who watched the video.

I really don’t care if it was serious or play, it was too aggressive. In the heat of the moment, with my children out there, it didn’t appear to be play to me either.

I’d do the same thing again. I’m also a dog lover, I have two in the home, small breed and midsize.

I’m sorry it had to end the way it did. Owner is more to blame. Dogs shouldn’t be kept on chains and ignored. Probably the first time this dog was ever loose to interact with other people, and It turned into a dangerous situation.

That always seems to be the back story on most aggressive dog attacks regardless the breed.

It looks like play to my eyes. If the dog wanted it could have bitten the kids, it's not that hard. I won't fault you for your actions though. That kind of play can get out of hand pretty quick.

Glad it turned out well. I would’ve done the same, no doubt.

I’m not a dog person. Been bit 3x as a child. I love my dogs and those that are really well trained/behaved. I won’t hesitate to defend myself from an aggressive dog, I value my safety far more than their life.

Personally I think if that dog was attacking it would be more grab and shakin’ going on BUT throw kids in the equation and judgement on the cautious side is completely understood ... Papa Bear acts to protect. I do wish you could punch the crap out of the owner for his/her part in not controlling the dog and putting your kids in that situation and making you act ... the blame is on the owner.

Sad that it had to come to that. Owners need to be a lot more responsible. The dog can't run around freely on other properties and just expect you to assume all the risk at the expense of your kids. Was it playing? How long are you required to wait to find out?

My sister has an extremely friendly pit, but at the same time she knows what she has.

One of the reasons I carry when I go for walks. Not waiting to get bit before I take control of the situation with extreme prejudice.

I love dogs more than people for the most part. But I find this a good shoot. Playful or not, all it takes is one nip to a bad spot and the kid is in bad trouble. Who really needs a whippin is the owners who either haven't trained the dog to behave or kept him chained up and unsocialized.

My opinion comes from my wife who used to do Obedience Trials competitions.

She says that while a dog's instinct is to fight to submission, Pit Bulls have been too long bred to fight to death, that's why all the "overblown media because there's bias against the breed", in fact has a reasonable foundation.

Yes I know this is anecdotal on my part, and lots of folks have completely lovable and docile examples. BUT those that haven't raised them correctly are exposing their neighbors to a deadlier potential.

    That's why I don't like them.

^Right, at one time they were good dogs. The breed was forever ruined awhile back.

EDIT: I have way too many anecdotes about this particular subject.

You did the right thing. Your yard and your kids and you should be in no way in the position to wait to see if a large dog is playing or trying to hurt your kids. Good job dad..

Let’s be honest about MOST people with Pit Bulls. They got them because they are known to be mean and deadly. Not everyone but most. I see a lot of them at houses with people with issues such as drugs. They have a breeding issue and it’s not for petting zoos. When it comes to biting of any kind, they create a serious threat to life.

You deserve, and your kids deserve to live in peace without fear. GOOD FOR YOU.

The kids appear to be downrange if that’s you resolving the issue in the last shot.

Probably unnecessary, but that’s always the case until it’s not and then it’s too late.

I worked with a rescue and learned this to be true. We didn't take in pits or Rotweilers for this very reason. The people who were interested in pits were the kind of people we wouldn't adopt a pit out to.

Kids were slightly to the right, waited till the dog was almost on top of me, just so it would be directed toward the ground.

I’m just so glad that dog didn’t lock on to my kids arm. In the heat of the moment you don’t have time, to me it appeared to be attempting to grab my kids arms. With that aggression appearing to jump and grab at limbs, given the bread and the way it was treated locked on a chain, I’d rather stop the threat before it locks on to my child.

If I was a true a hole I would have been lawfully justified shooting it last night simply for being on my property and knocking my trash over, but I’m actually a dog lover. Love my kids more. I just fear pit bulls that are kept on chains as yard ornaments to look mean and given no attention.
