Personally I am very weary about meetups.
When it comes to gun deals police parking lots or Billy's, and I never go alone, without backup! I never go unarmed!
Just one odd thing happen I'm outta there.

This world has changed and you can't be to careful. BE PREPARED!

It used to be you could pick up hitch hikers, leave your doors unlocked, meet people in almost anywhere. Not anymore.

Picking up hitch hikers was something of a thrill. Haven't done it since the family got started.

Knowing how to fight basically. When I teach, if we have gun guys in the group, we usually bring out the airsoft, and I show exactly that scenario, that at bad breath distances, the gun is damn near useless. Footwork, and hand to hand play here. And for me, when I meet someone, you may very well not know it, but I've sized you up, and it's now all about angles, of where I can move, use footwork, and hand to hand. I've knocked out or choked out quiet a few of you guys in my mind already, lol. In all seriousness though, if anyone ever want's to do some training of that sort, I'm always up for it, and love teaching.

Lol, you're not that much older than me. Never too old.

Hour and a half is not too far away if you really want to learn.

I want everyone to know that I didn’t post this to have any reflection whatsoever on Armslist or even Craigslist and other classified sites. This is about someone that just happened to be a friend that is normally as careful as anyone of us. He dropped his guard and almost died. Could have happened at the grocery store or Walmart just as easy. I DONT WANT IT TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE no matter where you are.
 
Ive used them a lot in years past and had some good experiences on armslist...Also had some bad ones. Ive learned that as a seller, i dictate the terms of the deal...ALWAYS. We meet where i say, when i say, and how i say. If they dont agree, try to change things up, want to pay in internet money or some other crazy thing, i back out immediately. No discussing it or trying to help you figure out your situation, none of that, im gone. This has kept me safe through all of my deals on there. Glad your buddy made it out alive.
 
I have sold quite a bit on armslist and on Craigslist. Pretty much everybody I have delt with on armslist has been really nice and polite.

I'm guessing the cash app he wanted to use was probably venmo. Just last night someone contacted me on armslist asking if I accepted venmo. When I said no he stopped responding. Something about rona and not wanting to deal with cash. If I have to hand you a gun I don't see why you can't hand me some strips of paper...
 
Here's my take - If you're an active forum member, that's a +1 in your book because you're not going to get hundreds/thousands of posts on a gun forum without leaving a pretty strong impression of who you are... and I'll probably be looking at that ahead of time. If I've had a couple conversations with you on a forum already, we're probably meeting inside a mcdonalds so I can get coffee and two apple pies.
Armslist or other anonymous thing is a -1. Too many scammers, and I've talked to too many probably ones already.
As a seller, I can exercise my right to set the terms because I have the thing you want. As a buyer, I can exercise my right to set the terms because I have the money you want. You also have rights as a buyer/seller, and if things don't match up, we'll both keep looking.
I've said it here before, if I don't feel 100% going into it, I might make it as difficult as possible, for my own safety and wallet health. I may, in fact, tell lies to judge the situation if I'm having some doubts. I can always make the deal easier as we go if I feel okay with it.
Places I've used - deserted parking lots late at night, coffee shops, alongside busy intersections in the afternoon, shadowy back alleys, gun shops, krispy kreme, mcdonalds, wendys, your house, my house - it all depends.

Glad your friend is okay. sucks that he made the choice to hand over his only available weapon... I'll bet he's going to be a LOT more paranoid about that sort of thing from now on. and I'm still very grumpy about being ~4months into the ~6month wait to get my appointment to get my NC carry license.

That's how I got my M1A socom. I wasn't familiar with the forum member because of low posts... but he listed a local PD as the meetup and said "ask for me at the front desk, I'll be in the back working".

It might’ve actually been Cash App. I know one member here that was asked a couple times at the Hickory show if he used that service.

@Stick Man, I didn't know I should have been in fear for my life when I came over to look at the camper, lol. I'm too old, fat and slow to try any crap with anyone. If you ever see me running, you might want to run also, because something is seriously wrong!

I always take my wife as back up when I go somewhere to meet someone. I bought a chainsaw off of Craigslist and it was in a "less than desirable" area of Charlotte, so she rode along. I went around to the back of the guys house with him and when I came back around, she was so busy with her cell phone that she did not even see me walking up to the car. I could have been robbed, stabbed or shot and she would have never known. So a word of advice, take someone that will have your back, ;).
 
Most newer cars and trucks unlock the doors after you are in park. Easy to disable this 'feature' in settings. I do this to every rental car I drive.

I would fully expect for you to make it. I'm not gonna be teaching full on Muay Thai or anything, but will definitely show stuff that works for all ages and sizes. I'll also bring training knives and a rubber gun or two, and a couple air soft guns if anyone is interested in that. I'll make a post later and see if anyone really is interested. I promise if you show up, you will take away something very useful.
