This was from the Police Magazine this month.

Washington Agency to Add Suppressors to Patrol Rifles

Spokesman-Review.

Citing concerns over possible hearing loss for officers and civilians alike, the Spokane (WA) Police Department is putting suppressors on all of its 181 patrol rifles, according to the Spokesman-Review.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says that exposure to sound greater than 140 decibels can create risk for irreparable hearing damage. The unsuppressed shot from an SPD patrol rifle can be about 152 decibels, Major Eric Olsen told the City Council.

Major Olsen said that buying the suppressors—in a contract valued at $115,000—would ultimately save the city money by avoiding having to pay for devices like hearing aids and batteries if a worker’s compensation claim is upheld. Five officers in the police department have filed claims with the Washington Department of Labor and Industries for hearing loss as a result of gunfire, the Spokesman-Review article said.

If I spec'd a carbine for a department it would have a 10.5” barrel that would likely be integrally suppressed to keep suppressors from getting “lost” as well as always being on the carbine.

This was part of the plan for that Maxum9 integrally suppressed pistol. Get PDs to buy into the idea of hearing safe sidearms as an actual thing.

Some clever politician could really use this like the CA microstamping thing. Require suppressors, then don't let you have them. Back door ban.

What rifles are they shooting that are 152 decibels unsuppressed INSIDE a patrol car?

It’s probably more like 160-165dB

This is a very important fact to note. Sheriff's are politicians, a typical cop is not. For every cop I meet that supports treating citizens as subjects, there are three or four that hate him.

CFF members here often make the comment that cops will be the ones to take your arms, but never mention the cops that will stay home that day. - They're out there, and there are a lot of them.
Depended on the Sheriff, and one shouldn't confuse the Sheriff with law enforcement either.

The $115,000 contract raised some eyebrows on the Spokane City Council, who signed off on the purchase last month after they say police satisfied concerns the devices would soften, not silence, a rifle’s report...

WHAT?!?!?!

This $1000 purchase that I waited 10 months for isn't going to make my 10.5" 5.56 sound like a Nerf gun? The horror!!!

Yep.....so many that it would never happen 'cause they'd suddenly find their Constitutional Compass and just stay home....

Police will kill folks for possession of a plant. If the order comes down, your pro-2A cop buddy will come take your guns.

So three articles from extremely liberal counties are being used to support your argument that ALL LEO's would infringe on the 2A ? - It's simply not the case. Shitty cops are out there, no doubt. A lot of them, no doubt...but many of them take their oath seriously, and actively fight for more freedom and liberty just as you do.

I am SO happy for them....spending all that money to buy suppressors for a rifle they will most like shoot once a year for qualification.
I'm sure a lot of them shoot their own shit in free time. You can usually write off ammo expenses for training purposes. I'm not sure if it's different by county or state or federal or whatever.

What would really piss me off is if they're given an exemption to purchases suppressors for personal use. I believe CA and NY exempt LEOs from magazine and firearm restrictions don't they?

The only good I see in this is that it brings up support for the idea that suppressors are beneficial for hearing protection and this puts more emphasis on the cause to stop trying to regulate them as if they were an assassination tool.

It's a possibility. It could go either way. - Ignorant people certainly don't think "well cops use standard 30rd mags because more is needed for defense, so citizens should have them too" do they? The ignorant masses tend to not go in that direction.
