The details are not complete yet, but it seems like the suspect managed to get the officers gun from him and shoot him in the chest above his vest. The officer managed to get his gun back and fatally shoot the guy before he died. Will be interesting to see hear the witness accounts.

There are two sides to that coin...

Even if you mortally wound someone, they may not go down immediately and they might still have a lot of fight left in them before dying. Be aware.

The media also likes to make a lot of noise about their ballistic vests, which aren’t exaclty “bulletproof”.
 
The perp had a gun too. But they don't know yet which gun was used to shoot the officer. What I heard sounded like the officer found it and took possession of it at some point in the stop.
