Been thinking of getting a CZ Varmint Trainer or something along that line. What are you guys using? At some point in my life I may swing for an Anschuntz, especially with rimfire ammo availability getting better.

I like that. I've been very happy with my PWS Summit but for some reason I'm getting the itch to do something real nice hence the thought of possibly considering an Anschuntz

They have so many models it's too much to take in. I spent some time fondling their new 1416 Threaded with Manners Stock at SHOT and I really like it but that Manners stock really bumps the price tag!

Can't be too worried about price if you get an Annie. After all, you ain't gonna be feeding her bulk pack ammo. In fact, just the opposite - not only will you want precision ammo, you'll want to find a lot number that works well (groups tightly) out of your particular barrel and order lots of the same lot number.

Can't go wrong with the CZ's. I have three of their rimfire rifles. Now I just need to get out and do some damn shooting. Just put the Techsight apertures on my 452 Trainer so need to sight those in and see how much they help my non-optic shooting.

I have a CZ 452 trainer with the CZ/Brno sight, which is pretty cool. Just the mechanics are great; the appearance takes you back to another time.

Bunsen can tell you all about Annie's.
Although, I know a little about Annies, CZ's, and Win 52's. The ones that started me down the path of precision rimfire in 2010 are the ones that REALLY have the knowledge base.

Interesting that you bring that up...I bought a 64R in quasi-Biathlon stock this year for $1350. They haven't had the model available since 2009 and they only had 100 stocks toatl. They were actually an over run item that Anz-North America snatched up from Anz-Germany. It's the EXACT same barreled action that they are dropping in the Manner's stocked version that are going for around +$1850. At first glance a $500 increase to $1850 makes sense, BUT you are actually paying ~$300 for an Anschutz stock that you don't get! The 1416 barreled actions w/ 5098 trigger are only ~$1k. MSRP should have been $1550.

That being said, I will say that my 64R with threaded barrel is one FUN rifle to shoot suppressed! It does have a slightly random cold bore flyer though, which presently eliminates it as a hunting rifle. :(

To answer your original question for rimfire precision trainers, I am very fond of CZ's for the money. They can be tuned and built to your desired specifications, at a reasonable cost.

I do like my Anz 64's, I also have a 64 MPR that shoots awesome, but it's super picky on ammo, it is a heavy rifle that is not easily suppressed, with a less than ideal ergonomic stock. The stock issue "should" be ale to be rectified soon enough. My understanding is that Anschutz has a 3 year exclusivity deal before Manners can begin selling Anz 64 inlet stocks direct to the consumer. It's a similar deal Manner's had in place with CZ over the 452 & 455 Precision Trainer stocks. You could start buying those direct from Manner's in Fall 2015 and sometime in 2019 the Anz64 inlet stocks should become available.

The Roe's are cleaning up with their new Annie... I love my 64MPR. Anything that can help me hang with the Roe Boys, Chikn (Heron) and Johnson is a damn fine gun.

I remember that 1903 Jr model shot lights out! What did they get now?

What are preferred scopes

I'm an MOA shooter and big fan of Vortex Optics. All my rimfire rifles have the Viper 6.5-20x44 (pictured above) on it except my Win 52B which has the Viper PST 6-24x50 SFP.

The 6.5-20x44 or 50 has good glass and very usable eyebox with 65MOA of elevation and windage travel in .25MOA increments.

I bought my first of eight Vipers in 2011 from CamerlandNY for $275 with a V-Plex Wide reticule. They have since discontinued that and added the very useful BDC reticule.

CameraLandNY is one of Vortex's largest distributor's and has had an agreement with Vortex about listing these below MAP (minimum advertised pricing) undercutting every other Vortex dealer (MSRP = $440, MAP = ~$375). Prices have slowly increased over the years up to $315. The 44mm Obj model was discontinued in 2014, but CLNY had the factory make a few additional runs for them to sell. I believe that supply has finally dried up, and all that is left is the 50mm (MSRP $469). That model is currently on sale for $299 from CLNY if you call them to order.

I like the Savage FV-SR in a Boyd's with a Vortex Crossfire 2
My other is a 10/22 in a Boyd's with a Kidd 18" and Mueller APT

I don't even know which is more accurate.

Had issues siting in the Savage cause it was ragged hole on my spotting shots lol.

If you want budget one I have been pleased with the savage fvsr besides stock but the cz and annie are nice if you have the budget for it.

I have not had a chance to post it here..but I picked up 2 TOZ 18 which are Soviet made 22lr trainers. The really interesting feature is how they are fitted for PU scope mounts and scopes.

Of the 2 I received one had the mount attached and the other did not. I will post pics when I can take them out in the sun for some decent light.

At the same I'm also considering building up my daughter's 10/22's to be some very accurate sleepers.

May take one of the other 10/22's and hook it up with a solid trigger, stock, barrel, and a bolt lock from Collosic

That's the coolest bolt lock design I've ever seen... Might have to get one for quiet work...

Boyette has one that is a blast to shoot. I think its a Savage….I got to shoot it, and its super nice. He needs to post a pic on here.

Thanks, its a CZ 452 LUX that I restocked.

Are the KIDD builds and products considered precision? I always liked his stuff, just never got around to building up my 10/22 with any of it.

I would.

My 10/22 with a Kidd 18" absolutely is a tack driver. I can go 10 for 10 on dumdums at 25 yards.

When I stripped it down it polished the trigger and the bolt.

After market triggers are still probably better, but I did my own.

I have heard much good about the CZs....but I have not shot one ever. but I must admit I do not expect to ever shoot as good without the Anschutz 1413 supermatch I used in my earlier days..personally I would settle for the CZ and use the extra funds for match grade ammo. maybe send the gun off to vacation at the eley factory

Working on a CZ for the next one, since the boy has called this his...

With all of the Canada bashing I am surprised that no one has pointed out that Savage rimfires are manufactured in Canada.

Heavy barrel on a 22lr is a waste of money.

I run a CZ452 with a normal contour and it never suffers from accuracy. It takes alot of shooting to heat up a 22lr barrel. LOL

Kinda depends on how much accuracy you're expecting though right?

Nope.

Depends on the quality of barrel manufacturer. Thickness of barrel is a old way of compasating for poor manufacturing ability.

To control harmonics shorter and lighter is always the best. At 14" you get full powder burn from a 22lr. So a 16" thin profile quality barrel will be great. No heat to offset.

Something to think about

I'm speaking more so on stiffness and harmonics rather than heat. Isnt that why you never see pencil barrels at truly competitive benchrest matches including rimfire? That was my point about it depending on the level of accuracy you're deeming acceptable. The folks that like to shoot one hole all tend to prefer the heavy barrels as do the manufacturers. Or is that strictly about heat management?
