House we bought came with gas logs that were set up incorrectly. We replaced the fireplace logs. We went through the burn in period but it still has a strong odor. It’s not a propane odor from a leak. When I say burn In period we’ve opened windows and let it run for days at this point. Still have a smell that we can’t get rid of.

Any thoughts? My wife wants to say screw it and just remove the insert and put in candle decorations.

It’s not a propane smell but a new shit burning smell?

oops. misunderstood.
Can you confirm the chimney damper is open and the flu is unobstructed?
and, is there a CO detector nearby?

I thought that was it but it’s been several days over the past year burning it. Still smell it.

Call the man aunt Bee.
Yeah I have. They said it just needs time to burn off the smell. It’s been way too long for that to be the issue. They even replaced the logs and cleaned it.

I know this is a crazy idea but…

If you had a gas tap somewhere in the yard (bbq, fire pit, etc.), could you burn the logs outside for a while?

I was thinking just put them on the grill and see what happens.

Did you replace the entire setup, including the burner, or just the logs?

And it's a vent-free?
