quietest air rifle that will put a hurtin’ down on pests

I have a Gamo Silent Cat that is a squirrel murdering machine. Don't let the name fool ya, it ain't quiet.
Put pellets heavy enough to stay subsonic and its much quieter though, far cry from silent still, but great for occasional pests. Wish the gun was heavier.

I've always used a Benjamin 392 for covert squirrel ops in the neighborhood. Very accurate and quiet and the 22 Cal has good knockdown power for non DRT shots. I've never had any luck with the break barrel spring loaded stuff.

And something else...if the barrel of a .22 does not protrude past the plane of a window, the sound outside is both highly directional and much suppressed. Of course, this would require some sort of assurance that nothing and nobody would cross in front of the window while shooting.

Just saying.
I once bought something that came in a 4ft x 1.5 to 1ft square tapered box, possibly a weed eater. I lined the inside with egg crate style foam and would shoot through it usually with a 22 rifle on my backyard table, with the muzzle being at least a foot inside the wide end of the box. An external silencer if you will. Worked great! Obviously not for hunting but worked well for plinking/target shooting.

I got the Gamo Varmint .177 from Amazon for $100. I can get 1" groups at 30 ish yards with 11.5 gr pellets. It absolutely murders bunnies and squirrels out to 30. The scope it came with isn't the best, but I did get it sighted in and holding zero after a while.

ETA: Break barrel springer.

A moderator on a spring air rifle will not do much quieting. A lot of the noise is generated by the release of the spring. If you want to go for a cheap option, the Umarex Fusion is whisper quiet and plenty deadly on rodents and iguanas at 20 yards. In particular accuracy surprised me. Very easy to do head shots at that distance.
