Ram EcoDiesel (Now a Chevy Duramax outcome)

I bought a used 2016 F350 with 6.7. Hands above my old 1997 7.3 F250 that blew a head gasket at 535K. Really? Only 535K!
One great feature is the 6 speed tranny. It will back an 8K trailer over a curb like it’s not even there. The 4 speed F250 had to have a running start! I hear the new Fords have a 10 speed!
One bad feature is stiff suspension. I’ll never buy another F350. F250 is plenty for my requirements.
The 20” tires that came from factory with it made it a bear to get in and out of. I found a set of 2020 18” take off rims and tires and changed them. Makes getting in and working from tail gate sooo much better. Hey I’m short!
Those Fords with 7.3 diesels were tough trucks. I drove one 6 days a week for 2 years working for a restaurant repair company. Never had an issue for a single problem from day one to 160k. It had 2 sets of brake pads. I bought the Dodge 5.9 Cummins turbo and still driving it now after 31 years. I’ll never buy a Dodge product even though the engine and transmission has been great. All the trim and parts around it were falling apart after ten years. New trim pieces, seats, mirrors, brakes, blower motors, head liner, etc… Sound like small items but stuff that should not crack and took too much time away from doing business. Those things rarely happen to a Ford In the first 20 years. My truck was produced in Mexico and the Cummins put into the truck at a USA facility.

I had one a few years ago. 2018 model? I liked the truck but it had a problem that made me not trust it. It had a place that let water get in electrical system and put it in limp mode, It would take a heavey rain storm/ hurrican to cause it. Dealer tried to find it but after the last time they fixed it, I traded it. But I think it was just a one-off, not a known problem. I would avg about 23 mpg- that's both in town and on hwy. I used it to haul both out 23 ft camper and my tractor with no problem. I can only think of a couple things orther tha the water problem that I had it in the dealer for- radio and a fuel system problem- both covered under warrenty.

yeah we have a 2500 Cummins already. I dont need another 3/4 ton truck since I have to go into Charlotte regularly and our 2500 wont fit in parking garages.

Yeah mine was factory 4x4 and it did not like parking garages

I know a guy with a 5.9. Truck has 350,000 on it, engine has had front and rear seals only. Rest of the truck is literally falling apart and has been for years

My truck speakers went out in 5 years. Radio in seven. Headliner trim 10 years. Headliner started falling at about 7.

I bought the truck because it had a Cummins engine in it. It also had a transmission made by Getrag (Germany company 4 minutes from me). Other than that I will never have anothe Dodge product. I bought a new minivan she wanted and it had a transmission failure at 68k and engine cracked at 90k. Maybe as a company Dodge has improved but history has soured me forever. I have 2 friends with Dodge diesel trucks newer than 2016 who have had engine issues. Both traded for Ford trucks.

So I contacted a few dealers and the "market adjustment" scam is real. They were advertising their lowest price. Messaged them and then they tacked $6k market adjustment on top along with an $899 doc fee.

If anybody has anything in stock, it's because they're charging a market adjustment.

GM or Dodge

Just a FYI, dealers do NOT have to honor the “tread lightly” or “family and Friends” or “X plan” pricing, and from what I understand many of them aren’t right now (due to inventory). If you can wait and don’t mind not buying local, you can still save considerable $ by contacting one of the dealers that focus on volume sales and placing an order, depending on options you could be looking at a 3mo-8mo wait.

found a dealer that doesn't have the market adjustment and is willing to sell under MSRP

It's best to be up front with them and not spring it on them later. The dealer I bought from ran me right down to the wire and didn't agree to honor the family first price until my truck arrived.

Would you share their name?
After the first of the year I'm going to look at the new Colorado.
Everett Chevy in Morganton. Also, leister Chevy in Lillington didn’t charge a market adjustment t.

Alright gents. What started as a ram eco diesel thread ended in a duramax diesel Chevy. I pick it up tomorrow. Thanks everyone @LeeMajors and @Scsmith42 for your input on the duramax.

(And everyone else that offered help)

Nice score Chris! I think that you'll enjoy it.
Thanks! I don’t commute back and forth to Charlotte like I did so I sold the daily and just drove the old farm truck. You know what I mean about having a backup truck when you have horses (and a company that requires big trucks)I’m pretty happy that I was able to score a diesel version. Makes things so much easier when towing. I know some of y’all can feel me when I say trying to get a truck and trailer into a busy gas station is right up there with sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.

Also, if the Mrs’ 6.7 turbo diesel has to go into the shop towing the horse trailer with this should be a piece of cake (not 2500 piece of cake)

Congrats! 3.0 duramax or the full size?

Edit - also does it have that cool stitch-together rear image for towing so it looks like your trailer is invisible?

I think that one will surprise you.

Had I had the $$$ one of those would be sitting here instead of a 250 diesel.

The ram just seemed weak to me. I know I was used to 6.7 diesel. But the 5.7 ram seemed to have more power than their 1500 diesel

3.0 duramax - it has something with the towing camera but not sure what.

I think I’m going to list my truck here before for what the dealer and carvana has offered me. It would make a nice truck for someone. 2014 5.7 hemi/35 inch tires/crew cab with camper top and only 54k miles.

Looks like you've already made a sweet decision on a truck

I rode in my regional managers Laramie dodge 1500 with the small diesel engine for the last 6 hours. He said it can take the truck stop diesel nozles and it does odd stuff like slam on the brakes when baking out of parking lots randomly because it thinks he is going to hit a ghost or something.

Hope you enjoy the Chevy that's a pretty color too.

Maiden voyage. I love the truck. It goes like a dream. I was getting 18mpg combined city and highway (70mph). Only used half a tank whereas my previous truck would need a tank and 1/2 to get there and back.

Add a stelth module and drop all the lag...be happy and the dealership will never know about it!

Mine was like that when I got it. Got a great deal. I wouldn't have bought 22s if I were doing it. Look great but so expensive and seems like they ride a good bit rougher
