^^ This Athlon ^^ Doug posted looks like a good unit (depending on their warranty).

I have this Vortex Ranger 1800 and like it. I have not put it to too strenuous use but it’s solid like all of Vortex’s products. Lifetime warranty. A little above your budget but you might find one on sale somewhere.

^^ Specs are similar to my Vortex for ~$100 less. I know nothing of Athlon as a brand but if they have a reputation for standing behind their products I’d give it a try.

Gave my older 1x mag 700 yard Leica away, next one will be the newer Leica 2400 7x unit my hunting buddy uses.
About $500 but worth every cent. Look for one used or refurb.

I use this for hunting: https://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-202208-Collector-Rangefinder-Realtree/dp/B00IN6ENWY

It's just 'OK'. If you care about early dawn or late dusk ranging (when solar light levels and colours are far from ideal for optics), this isn't for you, as the reticle and ranges are not illuminated and, thus, are hard to make out at those times. For my application it's fine, as I use it for getting an idea of ranges when setting up deer stands in good light conditions -- then for re-affirming them once I climb into my stands for the first time during deer season. (I also run a Burris Eliminator III on my rifle ... and it IS illuminated ... so if I need to check range in a pinch in those windows where the rangefinder won't suffice, I have another means -- hence why I didn't spend a lot on my range finding device.)

Anyone have a vortex impact 1000 rangefinder? Saw one yesterday and like the size and price of $200. As of now i am leaning towards the ranger 1800 but really just shoot to 600 yards but kinda like to have something to measure out to 1000 yds
Thanks

Have you looked at the Leupold RX-1400i TBR/W with DNA Black/Gray TOLED
The RX-1400i TBR®/W enters the market as the most versatile, feature-rich rangefinder in its class. Equipped with our proprietary ranging engine for lightning-fast accuracy, and an exceptionally bright red display, this rangefinder will take your hunting and shooting to the next level. Ballistically calculated ranges keep you on target even for the most extreme uphill and downhill shots. All of this functionality comes wrapped up in an incredibly rugged, lightweight polymer housing, making the RX-1400i TBR/W the perfect choice for your next big adventure.

Built-In Inclinometer
The RX series rangefinders have a built-in inclinometer with TBR that can calculate the ballistic range to your target, then display it as a holdover aim point, an MOA adjustment, a Milliradian adjustment, or the equivalent horizontal distance.

CR2 Lithium Battery
Powered by the readily available CR2 lithium camera battery, the RX-Rangefinders with DNA feature a convenient battery power indicator.

Digitally Enhanced Accuracy (DNA)
Fueled by an exclusive new rangefinder engine technology, three years in the making, the GX-3i and 4i with DNA propel golf laser rangefinding to new levels of precision, and speed. Get faster, more precise ranging with resolution to within 1/10th of a yard against all background colors and textures. DNA takes the groundbreaking GX series to a new level!

Fully Multi-coated Lens System
Our fully multi-coated lens system ensures maximum brightness for clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.

Scan Mode
Continuous range updates in Scan Mode keep you on target as you track movement or scan an area.

Select from three different reticles
Offers three different reticles to choose from: Plus Point™, Duplex, and Duplex with Plus Point.

True Ballistic Range with Wind (TBR/W)
TBR/W technology takes into account the angle of your shot and your rifle's ballistics to put you dead on. Line-of-sight measurements won't put you on target and any other rangefinder won't give you accurate ranges because they use basic trigonometry to calculate the distances instead of true ballistics. TBR/W is also the easiest way to account for wind out to distances of 800 yards. It generates a hold point for a 10-mph wind at a 90 degree angle to your direction of aim.

Waterproof
Tested to extreme climate conditions and guaranteed to be completely waterproof.

I saw one yesterday at the gun shop and loved the size but the red display was so dim i could barely see it. Plus the 2 year warranty is a turnoff for me, even though i may never need it.
Thanks

I ended up getting a leupold 1400i version and also a vortex impact 1000. So far i like both but not sure which one i like better

Just FYI for posterity..

Many years ago ~10 I guess I bought a Nikon 400yd rangefinder. Use it occasionally as a rangefinder but it's 8x and the glass is so good I use it as a handheld spotting scope if I'm shooting with a low power or no optic firearm to clearly see my hits on paper at 50yds. Definitely has been a worthwhile purchase.

Anyone have experience with the vortex 4000? I’m wanting something with max range. Wondering if this is worth the extra $$.

I have the RAZOR HD 4000. I ended up selling my Ranger 1500 at the time for the upgrade. Both were great units, but I just couldn't pass up on the 4000 deal. Had I know I was going to move to NC before I made the upgrade I probably wouldn't have done it. It just seems unnecessary out here, there are so many trees and there doesn't seem to be many wide open ranges like out west. I guess it just depends on where you are hunting/ranging. The "no questions asked" Vortex warranty is really hard to beat.

I use a Nikon now. It has been running strong for years.

This fall I was planning to pick up a new one and being.Vortex has been doing me good, lifetime no BS warranty and I have several of their optics and red dots with zero problem I plan to go with them and give my nikon to a younger guy at the hunt club.
Should be good to go for me with a price point in 200 to 300 range.
I really do not need one but it helps with some as I can not judge distance and hitting the deer I know to look in the field at 160 or x distance and not thinking it was longer or shorter at dark.

I do not hunt but do a lot of target shooting. My Nikon has no problem out to 550 yards but looking to out a little farther.

I just used my Vortex Ranger 1800 up at Bang Steel in Virginia and it was +/- 5 yards from their measured distances out to 1,200 yards.
