Range on private land

Could always use some silt fence for a bit as well to keep the pile in place till it firms up. I have plenty of weeds in flower beds where mulch used to be, so I know "something" will grow in mulch! Anyway could always put a load of soil over it and plant grass. Won't be perfect but would help hold it together. Still a lot cheaper to make a big mound of mulch instead of fill and top soil.
That is a good idea … even better jute erosion control cloth (it disappears on its own in about a year or so). We used that on a pond bank that had some severe washing. Basically jus lay it out and use wooden stakes to hold it in place at first then everything grows together … and best you don’t have to worry about pickin* up pieces of the stuff in the future since it’s biodegradable.

Mulch with a layer of top soil and then put whatever kind of grass seed DOT throws out on the side of the road that grows anywhere anytime should work pretty good. I used two 16’ dump trailer loads of old tires for my berm. I still need to get some sand or fill or something to cover the tires.

Planning on doing rr ties to prevent any splatter or an edge hit from getting out of my bermed areas. Want to use ar500 steel with some old mild steel deeper into the woods. I can’t do too much yet as we aren’t on the prop 24-7 and the last thing I’d want is for some trespasser to shoot up my targets or ricochet one onto the interstate.

Look around for large construction projects. Stop and offer to take some fill dirt off their hands.

I lucked out and got a dozen loads of dirt free. Some clay, gravel, dirt and a couple boulders the size of my Zero Turn but plenty for my shooting berm and fill for some low spots in lawn.

I will be moving to 2 acres in Roxboro in the next year or so and will be looking for a place to shoot
Either a range or private property.
I am trained to pick up after myself.
Any ideas?
I haven't read through the entire thread yet so maybe you have an answer but Hyco Shooting Club is where I have a membership. I'm more than happy to take you for a visit.

Where do you shoot now? My in-laws are in BSL so I'm looking for somewhere to duck out to when things get slow.
Unfortunately no where at the moment. Used to go to Ye Olde Gun Club, but they went private after the owner passed away. Still might join, it’s $400 for the first year, $200 per year after. Any Hill opened up their wait list for the first time I can remember, but they let in 12 out of 400 on the current list so it’s a bad choice if you want to shoot in the 2020’s. Buccaneer Gun Club also has their list closed I believe, at least last I checked.

I’d join Ye Olde and be done with it, but we bought 9 acres in February. So A) I’m broke and B) I’m trying to get a 100 yard range setup on that. Don’t want to drop the initiation fee but if I can’t find time to finish cutting trees etc soon I might.

Any more info on Ye Olde? Site doesn't exist anymore and their latest FB post is from 2015.. Sounds like something I'd be very interested in though. I don't mind Holly shelter or the indoor ranges but would love to use steel targets.

I’m have to see if I can find the phone number. I got through once and got the daughter that sounded like they’d planned to keep running it. Been a while though.

I own 30 acres of heavily forested land in Chatham County. Bought the land specifically so I could hunt and shoot as much as I like.

Well, nobody told me that the old lady next door, 750 yards away (as the crow flies through the woods) was an old curmudgeon.

Each time I shot, for the first few weeks, she'd call the sheriff on me, even though I was totally legal. It got to the point that the deputy wouldn't even stop. They'd drive down my driveway, waive, and drive away.

Then, she started calling the sheriff on me when other people were shooting on their land, in the opposite direction of my house! It wasn't even me!

I went and talked to the sheriff. He said, "You're not doing anything wrong. Shoot as much as you want, but if she calls, I have to send somebody to check it out."

I ended up getting a membership to an outdoor range. I don't even shoot on my own land because of that old witch.

But, I tell you what, when she dies I'm gonna go outside in my yard and shoot guns all day to celebrate...
Ive had similar on my property all got resolved talking with the person. Was also able to build a decent home range for free if you search around for old telephone poles or railroad ties, built three walls out of stacking telephone poles sideways and filled it with dirt
