Rifle: Swiss k-31 and K-11

The rear sight (adjustable) on the rifles are at their lowest settings and still shoot about 8 to 9 inches high. (sights are set for 300 meters) I would like to cut the U groove a little deeper. I am having a math senior moment and can not remember the math way to figure out how much deeper to make the U groove for a hundred yards? I do not live close to the range to just cut a little and then test. Let me add front sights are not adjustable for elevation only windage.

Thanks

Here's a non-permanent solution:

I have actually done that before for some other rifles I have. I want a permanent solution for this one though.

I was thinking about just taking some wood off so the rear sight sits a hair lower and see how that works out. Getting ready to pull the rifle apart anyway for a good cleaning in a few minutes.

My calculator says you need to cut 0.053" from the rear sight. is that even possible?

Swiss Products sells replacement front sight blades fairly cheap:

To me 0.053 just does not seem correct. Not saying it is not. Just that is not much at all.

It is for this weekend so I will lower one of them myself and at $15 bucks each I think I will order 1 for K-11 and 1 for K-31. See how they work out then order a couple more for the rest of the rifles.

Thanks for the info!

Someone please check my math? I got the sight radius from the wiki page

that is the only place I found the sight radius also. 568mm On that same page it also says that the rear sight is 100 meters to 1500 meters. But they are 300 meters to 1500 meters

Harbor freight sells packs of needle files for $4. There is one round “rat tail” file in each pack of + - 10 files. I usually buy three packs at a time because the files are only good for a project or two until the particular file you like/use is worn out. The round file is .120 at its thickest point on the shaft. I make U Notches out of most any sights that are square notches if I can.

I can’t answer how deep for your application. I’d take a file and the rifle to the range and give it a go.

He said his sights were set for 300 meters (11811"). I was using this distance in my calculations. I was also using 8" as the amount of error.

ETA: Sorry, just noticed he asked for sight adjustment at 100yds. You are correct sir.

I am going to bring file with me when I go to the range. Hopefully not to many people will be there and I will just take a little bit at a time. I did order some new front sight also. Hopefully those will be here Monday. Will use those on my other rifles.

The new front sights came yesterday. So I installed one on one of the K-11. It is .073 taller then the original. Hopefully I will be able to test this Friday if the range is not to busy. Have to RSO, so if not busy I can shoot. Did not get a chance to shoot the other K-11 (the one I filed down) last weekend due to a turkey shoot going on. So I will see how they compare.

@Catfish Thank you for the web sight.
