I'm a big HK fan. I own the following HKs: Mark 23, USP45 (I added a threaded barrel), USP45C (I added a threaded barrel), P30L, and a brand new HK45CT.
I bought an HK45C back in 2011 and had it for several years until a good friend BEGGED me to sell it to her before I left California. It's illegal for a Cali resident to buy an HK45C unless they buy it from another resident who legally brought it into the state while in the military, registered it with the state, etc... We both knew that me selling her my used HK45C was the only way she was ever going to get one legally... And I knew I was moving to NC and would be able to replace it anyway.
So, here we are, two years later and I have finally replaced the old HK45C with a brand new HK45CT! If you didn't know, all threaded handgun barrels are illegal in Cali. So, after moving to NC, I have been acquiring pistols with threaded barrels, almost exclusively.
Anyway... I ordered the new HK45CT and it arrived yesterday. It is perfect in every way, except that it does NOT have any date codes or proof markers laser engraved on the slide. Also, the serial number on the threaded barrel does not match the serial number on the frame and slide.
I immediately got suspicious and started reading online. But I quickly found out that, about 2 years ago, Heckler and Koch decided that all HK45s and HK45Cs will be made in the US factory in Georgia. All other HK handguns are still made in Germany. Sadly, the US plant decided to save money by cutting out slide engraving, and they don't try to match serial numbers on engraved barrels. They just throw them on, willy nilly, as they come down the assembly line...
Everyone on the HK forums says not to worry. The parts are the same in Germany and in Georgia and there is no difference in quality control, but man... I really love the stag antler proof markers on HK pistols. In a way, I feel like I've been jipped... HaHaHa.
The good news is, the HK45CT came with raised night sights and a thread protector on the barrel... They used to ship with bare threads and make you buy your own thread protector later. Also, I guess they used to come with standard height sights. So, that's two nice upgrades that I was not expecting.
And here is a pic of my other HKs... If you zoom in, you can see the antlers and numbers engraved on the slides... I really miss the classic look on the new (naked) slide of the HK45CT.
