Any of you guys reload in your garage? My hotwater heater is in the garage and I'm wondering if thats a bad idea to reload in there? I could possibly set it up in the opposite corner about 15 feet or so away, thoughts?

I reload in my garage and the hot water heater is probably 25ft away. I might get blasted for this one but when it's cold outside I fire up a kerosene heater and it on the other side of the room. I think you'll be good as long as you don't start throwing powder and primers at it. Been doing this for the past 5 years and prior to that I reloaded in a storage building.

Yup. I think a majority of people reload in their garage or basement and odds are their water heater is nearby.

If you're using lee components they will devolop surface rust other than that reloading is fine out there.

Mine never have.

Also reload in the garage, probably 10' from the hot water heater, never a problem

I must have gotten some off ones cause I used to keep my stuff oiled but in my shed and they had some surface rust after a year

I think all my dies (Lee, Hornady, RCBS) have "patina", started when they were in a non vapor barriered addition in a rental, continues in the basement but dehumidifier has slowed it.

You could reload right next to an electric water heater. It's the gas water heater you may want to put a few feet between you and it. The gas heater has a flame inside it. There should be a door covering it but fumes can still find a way into it. There was a problem a couple years ago about people setting their fuel cans too close to it and the fumes would ignite. I think that's why they started putting water heaters up on those pedestals. o_O

Not at all. Have at it.

Some folks are convinced that smokeless propellant is unstable and the least little heat source will cause an explosion...complete hogwash. It isn't gasoline. It does not emit flammable vapors.

I've done the same thing without issue.

Unless you take an open container of propellant, walk over to the heater and start shaking powder on it like you're seasoning a steak, you'll be fine.

Been reloading in the basement or garage for 35 or so years with water heaters and main oil fed furnaces nearby and I've used both a kero and a propane heater at different times. Like someone said above, just don't toss powder on it.. Seriously, I do keep the heaters at least 6' away from the bench just in case of some bizarre mishap.

I spray the die heads for my dillon (and the press too) with G96 (my fave CLP product) and wipe them down now and then, and the only time I ever got that rust patina was when I hadn't reloaded for a year and they just sat.
