I have a friend who has a quantity of of those AP bullets he wants me to load for him. Any of you guys have a powder/load you can recommend for me?

keep in mind that the hearing surface...

I don't think that there are any "hearing" surfaces for an AP projectile! šŸ¤£

I'm sure that you mean "bearing" surface, and are correct. If you compare M2/M61 AP, the M2 does have a larger bearing area.

Also bear in mind that the M61 AP has a longer length than it's equivilent weight ball projecticle. So you'll need to take that into account with any load data. IMR or H4895 powder should work fine.

It looks like he has the M2 bullets. He says they weigh around 11 grams which converts to 169.7 grains. Anybody have a good .308 load for these with 4895 powder?

Does he have any extra? :)

He brought the bullets over yesterday. His scale was a bit off. I weighed them and they're the 165 gr version. Gonna have to rework my load calculations. Hogdon's starting load for 165 HPBT is 42.7 of IMR 4895.

I think loading pulled AP into new cases is a no no. Manufacturing AP ammo.
Would I still do it? Yup.
Can not do that for commercial sales. You can reload them for personal use. I have 1K of them I purchased back in early 90's. For years the CMP sold old Garand surplus AP ammo in bulk.
