remanufactured ammo

I’ve bought Freedom munitions and Ultramax (10+ yr ago). No issues with either, though Freedom munitions did have some quality issues years ago that got a lot of press. I wouldn’t have an issue buying from Freedom again if the price was right, of course.

Edit: I forgot about Georgia Arms. I bought a fair amount of their ammo also about 10yr ago.

I bought a case of 9mm from them not too long ago. Shot up about half of it without any issues.

Only think keeping me from buying more is the current deals on Norma.

I had a case head separation with some old Ultramax. Only time I ever shot reman.

I’ve shot a decent amount of Freedom Munitions and Georgia Arms. No issues so far.

Back in 2015-2016 I ordered a bunch of 300blk (super/sub) Amax and 308 Amax. The 308 was hot loaded (stuck cases and bulged primers) and the 300 blk subs would only hold around 5 moa at 100yds and some I thought were starting to tumble from the holes left in cardboard. Supers were ok. After talking to them and getting shafted I'll never buy from them again.

Yeah I've bought pistol ammo from them no issues and would buy from them again.
Just bought some 38 special from the month or so ago

From my experience, established companies selling remanufactured ammo, such as Georgia Arms, Freedom Arms or Defender ammunition have been good to go, I can honestly say that I’ve had more bad primers, jacked up cases or simple screwed up cartridges from the “budget” name brand manufacturers than I have from the smaller companies cranking out Remanufactured ammo.

Freedom Munitions has been good to go for me. Have some .223, .308, 9mm and maybe some .45. All shoots as good as I do (ain't saying much but that ain't their fault!).

I've never had any issues, though I don't shoot nearly as much as a lot on here. When Ram Arms was in Durham I bought a bunch of the ammo they loaded and never had a single issue.

Personally I don’t purchase center fire ammunition as I reload for everything I own. With that being said I have taken some in various trades. I recently took 200 rds of .223 that was remanufactured by Precision One Ammunition. It functioned and was as accurate as any factory stuff I’ve ever fired.
Several friends use their ammo and all have claimed it performs as it should.
Precision One Ammunition makes a good product and my friends say their customer service is great as well. The best part is they are located in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

I use a bunch of reman ammo. Mostly 9mm.

Defender (NC company!) and Freedom primarily.
I'm always somewhat startled at just how good that Defender ammo is. I know I've had 9, 40, 45, and 223 in that stuff and it has all been tight, consistent, and clean.

Had the same issue with some Ultramx from the late 90ish-early 00ish. Haven’t used any since.

What was left of the brass case was lodged in the chamber, couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t reload. Gun looked clear. It took me and another guy twenty minutes to work the brass out of the chamber on an M&P

Beat me to it. Check out Butter here on the forum. He makes quality stuff.

I had forgotten the thousand rounds I shot of his, and several thousand of a guy close to me in Holly Springs.

I don’t feel nearly as good about the factory reman ammo as I do about our local loaders. Just anecdotal I guess.

I use their reman’d 77gr .223 stuff for DMR matches. It’s good stuff!

I have had good luck with freedom. Bought a lot of 9mm, .223, and 10 mm. Haven’t had any issues with the reman stuff personally, and I like their ammo because it shoots relatively clean. Lots of good smaller manufacturers out there that need our support to help keep prices competitive.

First time I had a case separation was on the firing range at Ft Knox. Ammo was new Lake City not re-manufactured. This is not an unknown thing, if it were then a broken case extractor wouldn’t have been invented and issued to military armorers. I own extractors in four calibers 5.56, 7.62x51, 7.62x39,& 30-06. And have had to use them several times over the past 45 years.
Case separation can happen anytime to any ammo, be it new, remanufactured, or reloaded.
Every time I experienced this was when firing a semi auto or full auto weapon, never a single shot, bolt or lever action. This occurs usually while rapid fire heats the chamber up and the cartridge sticks enough for the extractor to pull the case head off.

The one time it happened to me was in an IDPA match and I was shooting just about 12,000 rds a year for 5-6 years. Not THAT much.

We can only load a max of ten rounds per mag, and max 18 rounds per stage, so there is pause between moving from target to target and position to position, and reloads. It did reinforce one thing to me. Two is one, and one is definitely none.

Hell no! I stay away from freedom munitions. Had a casing split in half. My friend had a few squibs as well. I would not trust them especially since you can buy factory ammunition at the same price as remanufactured

They used to make good *new* ammo, fwiw. Probably shot 10-12,000.

I have shot and still have a decent amount of LAX Ammo in 10mm and 300 blackout. I was buying this from them years ago before I started reloading myself. I haven’t had any problems out of any of mine I know some people have had some QC issues with them in the past. I remember one order they shorted me a few rounds of 300 blackout. One email and they made it right. They said they weigh the ammo and don’t count it and sometimes they’re count can be off.

I haven't used reman .223 ammo in a long time, but when I did it was Black Hills blue box 77gr. I shot a couple thousand rounds of this through my NRA/CMP match rifle and it ran great. Sadly, I think they discontinued the blue-box ammo back in 2020.

I remember, many years ago, when I was working at the gun shop, some of that Georgia arms stuff. You could shoot 10rds and every round sounded different.
