Remington 783... Worthless or helluva deal???

on further review, the Savage Axis is in the same ballpark. $323 scoped... $243 without the scope...

Throw the Ruger American and Mossberg in the mix and there's a healthy mix of $300ish rifles out there these days. For that I feel like should have one in the safe ready to go...

I have one just like it. Love it. Headspace is tight on surplus ammo. But doesn't cause a malfunction or not dangerous.

I'll buy more in other calibers if they come available for what I paid for the 308.

I've shot both the 783 and the Axis. 783 has a much better stock and trigger. The 783 my BIL has is in .270 and it shoots right around an inch @ 100 yards with anything we've put in it. I'd buy the Remington and not look back.

Yep, as has been said. 783 is a great gun for the money. Basically a Marlin copy of a Savage with the barrel nut and similar design that Remington took over. Solid gun. As others have said. 770 is the bic lighter of the gun world. Some shoot good, but any issues, just toss it.

I bought a 783 in 308 as a back-up gun for my son and other than the scope it's a good gun. Groups around 1 1/2. I gave the scope to a neighbor's kid to use as a spy glass.

it's the old Marlin X series. One of the most accurate cheap guns to every roll of the line. Wish they'd kept in in Walmart instead of the junk that's in there now. Even at $254 with scope, a 770 is a wretched POS.
