I had an eForm1 approved about a year ago to made a SBR. I never made the SBR that I was thinking about and would like to have the eForm1 canceled / removed from the NFA. I have spent time searching the internet and this forum with no luck.

What method and how do I contact the ATF to withdraw an approved eForm1 for an SBR that is never going to be made?

I remember reading somewhere that a form1 can be withdrawn and one get their money back if done within 2 years but cannot find that info.

They’ve always told me they want it in writing. You could print it out, sign it, scan it an email it. Or possibly just send the email and that counts?

Refund info is here:

3 years from the date you paid the tax. It’s considered a withdrawal if you pull it before it’s approved, or a cancellation of done after the approval. It can be done on a Form 1 if you (in the email) say you never made/modified the firearm into an NFA firearm. You can also do it (cancel or withdraw) on a Form 4 up until the 4473/transfer portion of the process.

With eForms, the refund will be automatic once they cancel it. I think when I did my last one in eForms it was a cancelation, so they just disapproved it and it sends you the notification. Not sure if they’ll do that on a withdrawal, or just confirm it was cancelled.
