I'm watching a 20 year old movie but this is the directors cut.
At 4 hours twenty minutes you've have too watch it in two parts.

What's in the extra hour and a half or so of footage?

For one the death of saruman, the clip above this footage isn't in the original movie, and in my opinion should have been.

We have the DVD box set with the extended versions. Not sure if that’s the same as directors cuts? Back around 2006, we watched all three one day…twelve hours of LOTR. 😳😴

My friend had never seen them before and we sat down and watched them over 2 days when he visited 2 months ago. He is now a LOTR fan.

In the book, Grima kills Saruman in the Shire when the two of them are razing it after the ring is destroyed. Merri and Pippin organize the Hobbits to fight against them.
From what I remember Peter Jackson thought it would dampen the triumph of the ring being destroyed or something like that. I agree on that with the movie, but the book ending was great and I thought it really showed how much everything changed the 4 hobbits.
