RIP Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones....

Saw the Stones in Charlotte in 1972 on the Exile on Main Street tour, an unforgettable experience. Never flashy like some of the other drummers, and content to leave the publicity to Mick and Keith, he was the glue that held them together. RIP

Man, Just bout forgot Big Ways 61. Mom’s favorite radio station.

And yes , rest easy Charlie, thanks for the great tunes
We’d listen late on Friday night after watching Horror Theater hosted by Dr.EVIL.
Everything that played on AM radio then was in new fangled reverb, because it “sounded better”.

Dang we are digging up old bones, Ways 61.
Use to go pop in there at times. I use to service the drink machine there and met some very cool and talented DJs in those days. Summer of 1973
RIP Charile

I listened to Big Ways when I was in high school, especially The Jack Gale Radio Program. He had one character, The Doctor, if I remember correctly, who supposedly flew in to Charlotte every morning, rushed across town to the studio to sing "Buckwheat Cakes", then rushed back to the airport just in time to catch his return flight, which landed just in time for him to run through the airport to catch his flight back to Charlotte for the next day's appearance. I thought Jack Gale was hilarious.

Jay Thomas, DJ on Big Ways, lived in Swan Run Village apartments near my house when I was a kid. We used to go to their pool to swim and he was there all the time.

Here in western NC it was 95.7 wroq the rock ,some station in SC has taken over the wroq call sign now that 95.7. has become the ride .
rocked out to the stones quite bit back in the day
Lucky enough to see the stones at Carter Finley late eighties on the steel wheels tour.

In this video from ‘69, there are a few closeup shots of Charlie. This is one of my favorite Stones’ songs.

I think in this particular video the lyrics were a bit more TV friendly in those days.

Rest In Peace Mr. Watts

I did see the Bridges to Babylon concert in Columbia in '94. I was in grad school then, and a buddy had an extra ticket - they were playing Williams-Brice, about a third of it was closed off for the stage show, and there were still 65,000 in there!

A friend and I went to Durham to see the Stones, only time I saw them live.

Saw them in 89. Steel wheels tour. edit: In Oakland.
Can remember Living Colour opened. They were good.
Somebody else too but can't remember.

I listened to Jay Thomas on WAPE in Jax, FL growing up. I was stunned to hear him again on Big Ways when I arrived in Charlotte for college.

Me too. Great band. I had seen them in Davis near Sacramento twice before with King's X. Small shows at the college before they were popular.

The rock stars' days are numbered.
They are going to die, as will we all.
No one gets out alive.
When we mourn the passing of the legends
and the tragic greatness of what they've left behind for us to enjoy
in the time we have left, we will also be mourning for ourselves.

One of my sons spent a couple of years at the same music school as their drummer.

I heard a quote today from Mr. Watts when he was asked what it was like to be the drummer for the Rolling Stones for 25 years. His reply was "Five years of working, 20 years of hanging around.”.

One of my favorite jazz albums is Charlie Watts’ A Tribute to Charlie Parker. Excellent album! Check it out.
