Rock Island 2011?

Talking with a fellow this weekend about messing around with a 2011. We talked about the need for reliability. The STI and Stacato's of the world are very nice. He happens to work on the 1911 and thinks that he can make a fine 2011 from a Rock Island for about $1500 including the gun. Does that sound reasonable ?

That seems reasonable - depending upon what's included in the work.

If by "2011" you mean "double stack 1911", then yes. Technically a 2011 has a metal upper frame and a separate grip module (STI uses polymer, and Infinity uses metal).

Anyway I have heard good things about the Rock Island double stack 1911s. You can often find STIs used under 2k, and occasionally for under 1600.
