Ruger Blackhawk

Nice. A friend has one with the longer barrel and 9mm cylinder. It's a tack driver!

Love the Black Hawks, old 3 screw models the most.

45 Colt
30 Carbine -- is a "blast" to shoot with cast bullets
9mm / 357 Converible
44 Mag 10.5" barrel, and of course your regular ones
357 Mag
not a BH but old 3 screw Single Six

one on the list is a 41 Mag version

How do y’all like the Blackhawk vs the Vaquero or Italian SAAs? I’m looking to buy my first SA in .357 just for fun at the range. Held several of them at the store but haven’t had the opportunity to shoot any SAAs.

I prefer the Blackhawk’s adjustable sights & Ruger’s ability to safely carry 6 rounds.

I may or may not have a problem.

Top to bottom- .41 Mag Bisley Super Blackhawk Hunter, the 6.5" .41 Mag shown upstream prior to its trip to TX, .41 Mag 5.5" Bisley, 10.5" .357 Maximum SRM Blackhawk & 5.5" Single Ten.

This is the one that started it all for me. 6.5" .357 Mag that makes me look like a hero at the range. Grampa taught me to shoot with his OM .357, so this was an obvious choice for my first s/a.

I really like the New Vaquero in 357 Magnum for several reasons. It is a bit smaller than a Blackhawk and is closer to the size of a Colt SAA. The cylinder lines up properly with the loading gate for ease during loading and unloading. That is the way the old three-screw Blackhawks are. I prefer the fixed sights mainly because they are lower and seem to line up faster than the taller adjustable sights. I cannot remember the last time I adjusted the adjustable sights on a revolver. It has a transfer bar that allows six rounds to be carried more safely than the Colt design.

My 357 Magnum single action revolvers include an old three screw Blackhawk, several New Vaqueros, and a Colt New Frontier. The several New Vaqueros see the most range time, SASS competition, and field use.

Good stuff - I checked out the Vaquero and Blackhawk at the CE gun show the other day, and I definitely preferred the Vaquero’s size. Tbh the single six felt the best, but I don’t know if I can justify spending $700 on a .22.

Very nice score on the Bisley!
I want one when I grow up….

That Bisley 45 Convertible is a desirable gun to many. It was initially known as a "Williams Distributor Exclusive." NICE find there!

The original Vaquero's (All Vaquero's are also New Models, that have the safety transfer bar system,) were on the normal Blackhawk sized frame. They carry a 2-digit prefix serial number. When folks wanted the smaller size frames,, they came out with the "New Vaquero" and the serial numbers have a 3-digit prefix. The .44's will ALL be on the larger frame.
The 50th anniversary Flattop guns came in the mid-frame size,, (same size as the original Ft design,) and later on when these guns went into production in other models,, with the FT frame,, they too are mid-framed size.
Follow safe loading practice with these mid framed guns.

But the Blackhawk, with it's adjustable sights,, is still the "large frame" size & is the base for many custom gun projects.
