S&W CSX

I got out and shot mine some today. I love it. Shoots point of aim for me. Seems to be accurate with my hornady 115 gr xtp reloads. The safety is easy to click off and is set into the frame of the gun so to me it is really non-intrusive. It has a very positive on/off detent. The trigger is crisp and about the only take-up is the little metal trigger safety. It feels a bit heavy and measures a consistent 5.25 lbs. It comes with an extra mag release for the lefties. Super easy to change the mag release from left to right side.
I think this one is going to be a keeper.

Comparison with my EC9S. It surprised me that even though it is an all metal frame, it is only 1 ounce heavier than the Ruger EC9S.

Here are my take-aways compared to my Shield, other than the obvious stuff (SAO vs. Striker, round capacity):
- Same weight
- Same length
- CSX is almost 0.2" wider

I like the look of the CSX, but I stop short at the SAO trigger. I've never carried anything other than a striker-fired gun, so I'm used to pulling and blam-ing. I'd have to retrain this dog to be cool with a SAO. Sell me over this hump, someone.

I'm curious as to what retraining you would need to do with striker fired vs hammer fired SAO.

Maybe I'm pretending to know what I'm talking about.

With a striker fired, I can have it cocked and ready to go out of the holster.

With a SAO, I'd need to pull the hammer back as I'm drawing, correct? Or walka round with the hammer back while holstered, right?

You carry it with the hammer cocked and the safety engaged (cocked and locked). Disengage safety with your thumb on the draw.

When you chamber a round on a striker fired pistol, it is ready to fire. Same thing on the CSX, chamber a round and it cocks the hammer back ready to fire.

Yeah I guess I was worried for some reason about the hammer being back all the time. I guess there’s no worry there, eh?

It’s not gonna catch on your shirt or print more? Most hammers I’ve ever seen are very sharp edged.

I have a gen 1 shield 9 and like the CSX much better. It has a better trigger and feels more balanced.
I need to stop asking questions. This is going to end with money leaving my bank account!

As to hammer “dangers” … I have always wondered the ratio of negligent discharges from lowering the hammer on a loaded chamber to those negligent discharges from carrying cocked and locked in a proper holster covering the trigger.

I just got my dad to stop carrying that way last week. He would either carry condition 3, or lower the hammer manually (dangerous obviously) and then claim he "just had to pull the hammer back to fire". Which he has never actually done live, and does not practice at all. Carrying a cocked-and-locked pistol in any other way is just carrying a pre-malfunctioned pistol. Not a good way to start a fight (yea yea, Israel, yea yea they have those hot IDF chicks to protect them and if you practice the wrong thing enough times you get good at it, but it might not be a solid use of your time).

Huh... so there are folks who have never carried a pistol that has an exposed hammer, in the cocked and locked condition... never woulda thought that... @Jeppo, are you accepting new members in the Dinosaur Club?

I would imagine there are a fair amount of retired lawman that have never carried their service weapon "cocked and locked". I never did in 33 years and several different agencies.

I’ve got no problem with carrying a gun cocked and ready to go. I’ve done for 10+ years. I’m such a bad ass that I even do it without the safety on.

I’ll sign autographs later.

I’m not afraid of a hammer. Just never carried one. It’s what you call “fer-in” to me. Please don’t dock my man points any.

A friend of mine just bought one of these. And had to send it back to S&W already. It was beating itself up. He said it looked like the recoil spring was weak, and the slide was chewing up the rails.

Any updates on these ? Anybody else buy one and want to share their experience ?

Thanks !

We sold one at the Gun Show Saturday. Didn’t get to fire, but got to fondle it s bit.
I didn’t particularly like the way it felt. Grip was a little big from back to front for me
