Second Wave shortages already in UK

Oh man, here we go with the TP again.....lol.

England says that they're facing a significant surge in Covid19 cases. In the video below, Chris Martensen explains how this is very likely an artifact of mass testing rather than the spread being worse than it was early on. Still, they are preparing to shut down the country in response, which is why they are panic buying:

Its been what, 9 months now? And I still can't find a bottle of 90% rubbing alcohol, despite every store selling ready made hand sanitizer now. I get the feeling that people are sitting on gallons of the stuff, not sure what to do with it, but convinced that without it the 'Rona would kick down their door and slap their mama.

Its a minor annoyance for me, because 90% alcohol is my preferred aftershave.

I STILL don’t understand the infatuation with stockpiling TP.

Me either. Its the weirdest thing. People hear about one person stockpiling, and suddenly they all have to buy all they can carry.

Everyone keeps on dropping turds the same, and wiping the same. Paper mills still making the same amount of TP. The shortages are totally caused by the panic buying.

At least his time, I know where to get all the TP I need if we have another apoopalypse.

*snickers

My belief is that it goes back to the Y2k scare when every computer in the world was going to crash and civilization was going to screech to a halt. Everybody got on their interwebz to become students of prepping and the "expert" answers for "what to stock up on" had Toilet Paper very near the top of the list with along with water.

"Because there's no reasonable substitute for it".

since it started in China, they did not have enough masks to go around, so people made their own with toilet paper.
soon enough, the toilet paper was gone, and since the internet is the World Wide Web...better buy some today.

GF found some 90% at Dollar General in Concord. Look in store that dont have the high traffic. Its starting to trickle back.

I think the TP stockpiling issue might be more related to people being at home more. When everyone was going to work they would use the TP at work (I know quite a few people who always go on company time) so they didn't use as much at home. Now that everyone is home they are using more at home.

I do not think it is a supply issue but a supply chain issue, we have tons of TP in the corporate supply chain to be delivered at offices but the home supply chain is what has been overworked.

I am not sure this is the reason but it makes some sense if you think about it from the work/home aspect.

Home Depot had it by the gallon but on the label it stated it wasn't sterile.... Makes my head hurt...

update:

On Thursday, the Welsh Government said that supermarkets would be told not to sell non-essential goods, like clothes, toys, decorations and electrical items during the 17-day firebreak.
From 18:00 BST shops will be forced to close for 17 days, unless they sell essential items such as food.

(firebreak is their term for lockdown)

ok.
it's here.

As the numbers of coronavirus cases increases, grocery chains such as Kroger began limiting customer purchases of toilet paper,
paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and hand soaps to a maximum of two earlier this week in-stores and online, CNN reported.

Publix had signs on the packaged meat for the last two weeks saying 2 items only. Paper towels & toilet paper 1 item only.
