Serious question about 2nd Amendment

How do you reconcile this hang-em-high approach to violent crime with a Christian upbringing that commands us not to kill? I’m not even a very good Christian and I can’t figure that one out without rationalizing.

Specifically the command is not to murder. Blame King James for a slightly inaccurate translation from Hebrew. It's not a deal breaking faith issue. But it leads to some conversations that would likely be different if it were stated "though shall not murder." Which is a closer english translation of the Hebrew word from my understanding. The Hebrew term has a similar concept to malice a fore thought to it.

Same reason you have ideas like "just war." Christians have a responsibility to protect the weak too. And if protecting the offender leads to compromising the weak, there are decisions that have to be made. And IMO, make them favoring the weak. Protection of innocents seems to be a far more righteous ideal than protecting the violent.

it's simple. If he is a free man, he should eventually be allowed to do free man stuff. Even if it involves going back before a judge and getting his rights restored. Seems to work pretty well in NC.
I know a guy :D

Better question, does the gov have the authority to bar anyone from owning a firearm?
It says "shall not be infringed", not "shall not be infringed unless a court convicts you of a felony"

Is the second amendment different than the other nine (amendments) of the Bill of Rights? That is, can the government place stipulations on any of the other amendments within the Bill of Rights except the second? I would bet that the courts would say that because there is precedent with stipulations to other amendments, there could also be stipulations applied to "shall not be infringed".

Doesn't make it right, it makes it what it is.

I'm no theologian, yet I'll give this a go-
Christianity commands us to not murder. Taking a life for a heinous crime is the job of a judge and the State. Declaring war to defend it's border and people is the job of the State, the soldier in war taking a life acting as an arm of the law isn't murder.
Self defense is allowed/expected as well.
Luke 11:21 "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe;
Luke 22:36 (Christ) "He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one." (The sword is the equivalent to today's gun)
Romans 13:3-4 "For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer."

I really like the responses to this question. Thanks for asking it. It has made me open my bible today with a question to find answers too.

The state has no authority to prohibit a free individual from the RTKBA...none at all.

Problem is, we have allowed the state to assume jobs/responsibilities that are OURS. Why? Well, for the most part, society has shunned personal accountability and/or responsibility because they are lazy. They'd rather let .gov handle things.

Let's say Holmes is released, purchases a firearm and decides to go hunting again in a theater. "But, but...he shouldn't be allowed to have a gun; who's gonna protect us?!!!!"

Look in the f'ing mirror...that's YOUR job.

"But...but...it's a gun-free zone; I can't protect myself in there!"

BS.

There is always a choice.
