In 2012 Pepsi paid over $3 million in fines and had to change their hiring policy. Now EEOC is suing Sheetz for the same thing. All because EEOC says denying employment due to criminal background check is discriminatory to 'African Americans'. EEOC says if the conviction had nothing to do with the prospective employment, it cannot be the grounds for denying employment. I guess that means if you robbed a bank, that shouldn't disqualify you from working at a gas station.

Pepsi 2012

Sheetz 2024

What would we do without the fedgov making things right with the world?

I'm getting a mixed message here from the Feds.

Now that is totally some of that sideways racism that the left is so good at. "We need to stop criminal background checks from being a determinant, because more black folks have criminal backgrounds than the other races." I mean, at least they are honest...they could have tried to flower up the outhouse by stating "we believe in second chances and people should have a clean slate if they have done their time." But nope...went right straight to "it impacts minorities".

If the information on the application is not accurate, the background check will be incomplete. More non white folks work at all the Sheetz I eat at.

Same. I’m not sure the disqualification is an automatic indicator of discrimination. If 40% of your applicants are AA and 40% of your hires are AA, then disqualifying felons is not discrimination against AAs. I wonder if the federal government is discriminating in the way they claim Sheetz is.

our ops manager got an email about somebody trying to arrange for us to do interviews with justice involved individuals.
she called me over and was like "uh, what's this?"
I said "during the obama era, the government wanted everybody to stop calling felons and excons felons and excons. they're 'justice involved individuals' now so they don't feel bad about being called felons and excons."
she asked "sooo, i shouldn't work with this recruiter?"
"do you want a bunch of felons and excons working for us?"
she said "i'll just email back that we have a thorough background check system"
"good plan"

sue me?

You spelt racism wrong.

I am often reminded of a scene in my high school. We were in physics class and the instructor was a particularly well educated and worldly gentleman. He used to teach ambassadors kids in a special school in NY. One day he was listing out homework assignments for the week and the list was particularly long. One girl spoke out, "All of this, this week? That's not fair!" He walked over to her, leaned down and said, "In the real world, life's not fair."

And didn’t they just release a new ATF rule that was all about background checks being necessary for gun purchases? Where is their concern for minorities there?

This crap is infuriating.
We’re starting up a business we expect to do well, thankfully we’ve folks that grew up spending a lot of time in our home that want work for us.
We’ve been fighting with a large company for about a year, they would not accept a bank check for $86K because my wife mispronounced Shakawandikama, or whatever her made up name is in accounts receivable. She is apparently the only acct rec person!?! A door and some windows from the $160K order are taking over 6 mo to deliver. She told my wife our dealership account has been cancelled. I dug into the company leadership to try to get this straightened out, lo and behold, an obese woman with a similar appearance is their “Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer”.
We’re estimating they’ll get ~$3M in orders/year from us, and fully incompetent and protected Shakawandikama is causing us to go to their competitor.
One entertaining part is my is a bit woke on this topic, gets upset if I use the term DEI, and she’s wrapped around the axle with this broad.
If one hires due to appearance, coddles bad behavior, doesn’t hold people accountable, those people quickly learn there’s no short term benefit to self control and long term thinking. It’s a great way to destroy businesses and countries.

They filed the lawsuit at the same time Biden was visiting one of the locations, I think in PA? That’s the headline I caught recently. 🤣
It has actually been going on for four or five years with back and forth negotiations. They are just now trying to strong-arm Sheetz.

Surely the Sheetz owners have enough money to buy God by now?

I'd be tempted to just retire, shutter the entire business and lay everyone off and put the White House number on the call for more information part of the lay off letter.

Then again I burn my bridges while I'm still on them lol

EEOC doesn't give a crap about equal employment opportunities, they themselves, being a .GOV, require a background check for employment.

Dollars to pesos says the same people who bought DA's in blue cities and told them to not prosecute, or cut loose, violent offenders, also told the EEOC to pursue this course of action. It seems really important to the men behind the curtain that society be filled to the gills with violent criminals.

Destabilization of society is necessary for their goals.

"Fair" is an event that comes around once a year, generally in the fall. -- My Dad, numerous times during my early youth until I got it.

A fundamental concept lost on the current generation(s). The world doesn't owe you anything. Be happy that, by the grace of God, you wake up each morning.
