Wife and I are in the middle of a bathroom remodel, have removed the old tub and are wanting to put a shower surround in.
The drain isn't in the correct location that the shower pan calls for.
The previous tub drain was basically a piece of drain extension at a slight angle and siliconed into the cast iron.
There are two 22 degree elbows attached to the cast iron drain in a S pattern to bring it up to where the drain extension went down... needless to say its a hot mess as you can see in the pictures.

I'm thinking that we will need to do some like shown in the diagram, cut out the joist and scab in and brace around the area, which will replace the joist the rabid beaver who did the job on the joist in the first place, and allow for more access to plumb the drain correctly.

Thoughts? Ideas?
Want to do it or know someone who would be interested? My wife has a overt fear of the house falling apart so she's wanting me to find someone to take care of it. My normal plumber and contractor people are booked up for several weeks and it's really the only thing standing in the way of finishing the project.

You can do it just brace the area as in your diagram.

Sorry some hacker did it the wrong way to start with.

2-5/8" selfeed bit is what should have cut hole in that joist.
This is what scares me about the possibility I'm gonna have to hire the rest of my home projects.

The person that cut that floor joist is a moron.

The diagram you posted is the correct way.
The house was built in '67 or so..... somethings are done really well in it.... others not so much, but its also hard to say what is the results of the previous owners... apparently the previous owner fancied him self quite the handyman, based on some of his work I don't think he couldn't fix a bent straw.

Lol... I know I can do it, tell my wife that. If someone comes and screws it up, they get to leave. I have to live with her and she's a red head who can shoot if I screw it up.

It's not the worst thing thus far.... wanna talk about the radiant heat in the ceilings that they kept poking holes in the drywall to hang things and nicking the wires? That's gone now.

I'll pass on the radiant heat wiring nightmare, dealt with that once before in a renovation on a flip house.

Red head with a gun.........what were you thinking.....just kidding. Marriage means even if you did it right, you did it wrong and someone else would have done it better.
