Today, I saw this recipe online and decided to try it... I love shrimp and grits, but I have not been able to replicate it properly at home. Before today, I thought this could only be pulled off in a restaurant. Thankfully, I proved myself wrong!

I've made many attempts, but today's try is by far the best!

    Here's the recipe I used as a base... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.so...and-grits-recipe-from-anne-byrn-every-day.amp

I followed the recipe, except for the following changes:

    - I used a large cast iron skillet
    -I added andouille sausage (chopped)
    - I doubled the grits (2 cups instead of 1 cup)

The lady who wrote the original recipe said to use fancy stone ground grits and to use raw shrimp, adding them to the cooked grits just before putting the whole pan into the oven... These ideas both worked very well! The stone ground grits tasted fresh and added to the texture! The raw shrimp, added to the hot grits, and then baked for 8 min, came out perfectly cooked! It's always sad when you accidentally over-cook the shrimp.

    Well, it turned out wonderfully!

Using a cast iron skillet caused the finished product to come out crispy on the edges. It almost started turning into Shrimp and Grits Cornbread, and it was AMAZING! Even my picky daughters liked it!

Cast iron skillet, butter, chopped andouille sausage...

Cook the cheese grits on top of the andouille, then add the raw shrimp right before you put the whole thing into the oven at 375 degrees for 8 minutes..
    20200723_165226.jpg
Finished product... Notice the beautiful dark brown edges. The outer edges started to get crunchy like corn bread... It was wonderful!

Use chicken broth/stock for the grits rather than water.

    Your welcome;)

Anyone got a great recipe for Jambalaya?

I hadn’t had it in a good while until a couple weeks ago. @Lil D made some one Sunday evening and it was some of the best food I’ve ever eaten

It just sounds like one of those combos that wouldn't be that great, like chicken and waffles, or Sonny and Cher.

The great thing about shrimp and grits is everyone does it different. If I go to a restaurant and they happen to serve shrimp and grits I’m ordering it.

We do our own version of shrimp and grits here. Ours looks a lot like the plate @Lil D posted. We haven't had it in a while and I mentioned it the other day. May be in our future soon.

This is the only way that I will eat grits. I just don’t know why I don’t like them any other way. I am definitely only trying this out since I’m on new cooking qick.

I was never a fan of grits till I was introduced to shrimp and grits about 20 years ago. Although I gotta say “Eggs Up grill” does great grits. Had some today.

They serve them in a bowl and they are a little “runnier” than the traditional kind that get caked as soon as they cool. They tell me there that 50% of folks love them, and 50% hate them. I think they are great.

Daniel Boone Yellow Stone Ground Grits. That's the only kind that I eat. I don't care for the white creamy grits.

I'll dig out my recipe tomorrow but for those looking for a nice seasoning mix try Everglades Chicken and Fish. A good mix of spices and the right about of heat. I buy it from Publix. I put it on drum, trout, flounder, shrimp and chicken, and then just cook in a small pat of butter.

If shes really wanting to treat me nice,, she adds crumbled bacon. That really makes a difference. But I really miss real grits, soft buttery maybe some cheddar cheese. The instant is a pale substitute.

I don’t think I’ve ever had corn grits. Flavor different than the white ones?

I use Everglades on everything! We get all four of their flavors and the mopping sauce. I recommend it to everybody!!!

Pretty ain't always good. Looks like a bowlful of grits with shrimp thrown on top that were cooked separately. You lose alot when the shrimp ain't cooked in the grits.
