SIL was robbed at gun point sitting in her car in front of her house in Wilmington today.

sitting in her car with her window open staring at her phone.

shes ok, they just took her phone and purse but it could have been much worse.

please be careful, aware of your surroundings, and protect yourself and those you love from what it seems the growing number of scum that walk our streets.

Sorry to hear this but happy that she's OK. I tell my wife this all the time, be aware of what's going on around you. She pays no attention at all to what's going on around her.

Situational awareness is apparently something that only a select few practice. I have rolled down my window and waved at my mom and SIL as they drove past me and they claim they never saw me.

The worst part is that it was in front of her home. She's going to be freaked out for awhile thinking they can come back for more.

they actually just sold the house, they packed up the last of the boxes and are handing over the keys soon, so at least they are out of the area.

I hate that. Glad your sister is ok. I'm in Wilmington/Southport this weekend. For the most part this used to be a better place

If you check some of the crime stats online it is surprising how bad Wilmington really is. Many think Fayetteville is bad but in reality it is a safer place than many others. At one time the crime rate was lower in F.ville than Wilmywood. It may be still.

She lived on Hudson st. Off market near downtown

Dang, glad she is ok. Lots of bad stuff happens down that way, I avoid downtown after dark if possible. Then again bad things seem to be happening in lots of places around here. Wilmington is just getting too big, its night and day different than it was when I moved here in the early 90's, and only getting worse.

Glad she is ok and glad she didn't keep a firearm in her purse. A lot of women do and that's the first thing a theif will try and steal. Gotta pay attention to what's going on all the time.

There have been several instances of females being followed home after leaving the food store or wallyworld. The woman pulls into her driveway, and the bad guys pull in behind and rob the person.
Always need 360 situational awareness. No place is safe anymore.

I had a good friend involved in an attempted robbery downtown at an ATM. Some lowlife came up and pulled a knife on him. He returned the favor by pulling out a 1911. The punk dropped the knife and ran like hell. My buddy still has the knife. :D
