Single Action .357's

"The "unicorns" are the Rugers, and Colts, etc., high and higher end stuff that everyone would like to have ,"

Well, when I first read your post,, I knew what you were considering. I didn't even mention the Freedom Arms models. THOSE are THE best. And of course, the prices reflect that. Plus,, they aren't often easily available even when we aren't experiencing shortages.

The issue, as I see it,, is your imposed time limit on a purchase. I could make a few calls, & likely find a nice, Ruger Old Model, (3-screw) shooter grade for around $600 easily enough. It just might not fit your timeframe. And I do have a LOT of contacts.

Well...I made a list of wants and needs.

The needs list was longer than the wants.

I did it any way.94150-DEFAULT-l.jpg

Uberti El Patron. .357. 4.75 inch barrel, color case hardened. It felt right compared to the 5.5 and was on the shelf at an LGS for about what buying online would cost considering possible shipping plus a definite transfer charge.

Did nobody get the spaghetti western joke? @Notacop called them spaghetti guns so I mentioned "For A Few Dollars More"....

I like Pietta first. Uberti second. These are revolvers that I can afford. Barrel lengths of 4 and 3/4". Except for a Uberti 3.5" Birdshead, in .45 Colt. I like it enough that I bought/fitted a .45ACP cylinder for it.

Ruger Vaquero if I stretch my budget? Colt? I just can't justify the cost. But, I would like to own a couple!

I have a new model Vaquero in .357 and a Colt SAA Bisley in 38 spl. Fun, versatile single actions that are easy on the wallet to shoot and as well made pieces as can be found anywhere.

Have a matching pair of Old Vaquero's in .357....stainless. They go nicely with my RH + cross draw western rig.

I'm rarely depressed at all, but If it feel it coming on I put on my boots/hat/western rig and feel better :)

Some time ago I had a nickel finish Colt SAA .357 second generation but needed some quick cash so I sold it to a guy who had a side biz of converting them to .45 Colts. Don't know if he bored out the barrel and re-rifled it or had spare parts on hand. I wonder how much of that was going on back then, 25 years or so ago.
