Howdy guys still fairly new too reloading I’ve had pretty decent success with what I’ve tried so far but I have a question about using 150gr-180gr pointed bullets for use in a single shot just trying too improve accuracy a little with it and tinker with a hunting load…of course I know too never load em in a lever gun but wanted opinions or recommendations on a bullets for this application…the same bullets I load for my 308 I wanna load for my 30-30 single shot pretty much

Do it. Tracers, Black tip, it don't matter, I've done em all at some point. The only thing I never loaded for 30-30 was 150-180gr huntin bullets.

Be careful shooting bullets with jacket designs for 308 velocities as at 30/30 they may not expand when used on game . Forget what I said as I repeated exactly what Sharps40 said.

Beauty of single shots is unlimited COL. Play with the seating depth all you want. And if you load long enuf they won't feed thru a lever gun anyway as an added failsafe.

Lots of 30-30 loads for other things, such as T/C pistols and Henry single shots. I've loaded plenty of Remington 150 grain core-lokt for 30-30 velocities. If you need lead free for some reason, then you need to step down to bullets made for the smaller 30's as the 30 cal monos seem to have expansion problems at the lower end of the velocity scale.

Nosler 125 gr ballistic tips are deer magic at 30/30 velocity.
Yea I want something that will expand and be ethical too kill a deer with…been looking around at some bullets and said I’d ask before I pulled the trigger on buying any

Oh wow. We're really gonna have a whole thread of arguments over the 30-30 Fudd cartridge and do the expansion vs depth of penetration thing?

I've used the Nosler 125 BT's with good results. I haven't tried them, but suspect the Speer 150 that is designed for the 300blk would be worth a try.

I’m not ⬆️ they might lol..I’m just looking for recommendations on a decent bullet too hunt deer with that’ll expand and penetrate I know 30-30 is a FUDD too most but the 300blkout is a FUDD too me so I’ll use what l always have

Not really looking too go back and forth with the why/why nots just looking for a decent bullet if you have a suggestion I’d love too hear it other than why I want expansion
sir, you can't start a fudd debate in a forum of old men, then try to control the conversation. before long we'll be talking about knee surgery and sciatica.

My grandaddy told me if you entertain a clown they will preform …so not trying too control anything really looking for bullets recommendations on bullets not any of the other stuff you mentioned you may get it from someone it won’t be from me have a great day 😉

I come here for the WEALTH of KNOWLEDGE and you my good man have not gave one bit a ? With a ? Isn’t how ya go about it I’m to be sure…if 30-30 is a FUDD never pick another up too be FUDDED on again lol

Just suggesting that expansion is not a major factor when killing deer in our area.

Didn’t want you hung up on that when an accurate load is way more important.

Ok. Ok.

This is the best “expanding” bullet for the 30/30 (and the 35 Remington for that matter) for expanding holes in deer.

Who says you can't shoot pointed bullets in a lever gun? Load chamber and one in magazine. As long as the COL will feed. Just don't load the full tubular magazine. Then there are lever guns with box magazines like the Savage 99 or my Browning 1895 I used to have.

Nice collection of bone.

The fresh kill on the ground, spine shot?

You related to @Michael458, nice collection of levers too.

One final question and then I’ll leave you to your quest for a new bullet, all that bone come from NC or are those from some place else?

ps … no f 💣’s in the open forum, you want to cuss me you have to do it somewhere else. 😉

no f-bombs in the open areas. you might want to edit that before you get a violation slip
