I headed over to Woody's this afternoon when the thermometer topped 40F to do some quick shooting of my recently acquired 59/66 and the Mini 14. When I got there I realized I left the ammo bag behind in the garage!

A young man was there trying out his newly purchased AK47 and offered me a couple boxes of Wolf 7.62x39 gratis but I happily paid for them. The Mini 14 had to remain in its case sadly

I had started sighting in the SKS on a previous trip and finished the job today. With the Wolf ball at 100 yds from a rest I regularly got 2.5" groups and could have done better if I had been able to make out the target. The standard NRA 100 yd bull is just too small for my eyes these days. Interestingly some S&B ball I tried on the first shooting trip with the rifle got shotgun groups. Go figure.

I then tried it on the steel 550yd range and was able to get multiple strikes on the 200 yd plates. I didn't bother beyond that because the plates were just a blur.

The SKS came to the U.S. from Slovenia based on the maintenance log that came with the rifle. It is all matching and the log indicated that the bore had 95% remaining life when it was inspected in 2005.

I bought it on a whim. I've owned multiple Chinese SKSs from a VN bring-back through the commercial guns imported in the 80s as well as a Soviet rebuild and a Yugo 59 but this one is the most accurate of any of them. I'd hate to hump it all day long, it is heavy and unbalanced, but from a bench it is a great shooter.

A bad day turned into a good day thanks to the generosity of a young man with his new AK.

Nice, this reminds me I need to clean up the cosmoline off my Yugo SKS,
been in the box for over two years, shame on me,
have not had the time to do it and need to sight in my Mini 14 too.

The sks is an unsung hero of the commie rifles. I have a complete collection of sks and love shooting them. As to the 300 yard line--- I have got 9 out of ten on a 12x12 plate at 300 yards from a Chinese para. Now- this was on best condition, shooting down hill with no wind hot summer day and after sighting in well at 100 yards. Its hard to beat a sks for durability and accuracy for a military rifle.

I bought a Chinese SKS at the last Dixie show. It’s the first SKS I’ve owned in many years. Sighted it in last week, and can keep 10 shots on an 8” steel target at 100 yards. Pretty good considering open sights and aging eyes!

They are very fun to shoot! I’ve always preferred them over an AK for better accuracy IMHO. The trigger breaks at 4 pounds on my gauge, and is fairly crisp.
