Recommend me a snake boot? Brunswick County for tall grass and scrub pines, some briars but not too bad. Land is dry enough I’m not hugely worried about waterproofing. Usually use Carhart overalls to, but don’t want to worry about my feet.

I have been using Rocky snake boots that zip up the sides and lace up the fronts for several years with no complaints.

Edit: Do not get the LaCrosse Diamondback rubber snake boots. They weigh a ton and are like wearing snow skiing boots when you walk.

I wear rockies, the full lace up not zip for me. I love mine.

Maybe a stupid question but are a good pair of leather boots not enough?
Some are and some are not. They make many boots out of very thin leather. I had a pair of leather snake boots when I lived in Florida anf wore them about every day. They came to just below the knees and became real heavy when they got wet.

LaCross Venoms … mine are at least 6 maybe 7 years old and still going strong. They are basically waterproof knee high nylon hiking boots. The key is to use a boot dryer stand to keep keep them from stinking from sweat and possible thingies like athletes foot.

Now y’all chime in?!? Bought a pair of Danner Vital Snake Boots, on sale direct from Danner. Guess Danner is owned by LaCross so good quality either way.

@Cowboy I was never that worried about them, especially Copperheads, then I learned Timber Rattlers are common here, them things scare me. Remember reading about a guy bit by a Diamondback. The venom is a vasodilator or similar and guy just collapsed. Spending time on the land alone, that wouldn’t be good or fun.

I LOL'd about the "now yall chime in" . Those Danners are nice you definitely didn't go wrong there. I started wearing the rockies when we were running dogs down in Bladen and I seen a few rattlers too close for comfort. With the dogs and the trucks and the general commotion I figured a snake boot would give me one less thing to worry about. Mine are waterproof almost to my knee also which is a plus.

Yea, still clearing the land so regularly wading through chest high grass. Last time too I started stepping down into ruts blind in said grass, didn't get a whole lot done that day...

Wore out a pair of RedHeads, been tested many times. I had the habit of sticking my boot in the face of snakes i came across. They did leak though. I replaced them with a Pair from Rocky, they don't leak and have survived a couple hits so far. Some observations.
CopperHeads will bite in a heartbeat
Cottonmouths will hiss and spit and false strike, but don't bite real easy
Canebreaks are pretty mellow for snakes, you have to piss them off to get them to bite.
These were all wild, in the woods, adult snakes. Smaller, younger snakes will strike easier, they learn as they get older.

Good stuff, thanks. Wonder if the Copperhead's preference to dry bite causes it to bite more often. Aside from our land we have pine behind our house and had to take 3 copperheads last fall. It's about time again so probably will get these a workout.

The Rocky boots are comfortable, but they leaked after a few years. I bought a pair of DryShods to replace them, they are not as comfortable, But serve the purpose.
