Q - roughly where is John located? Asking as I’m around Hickory and in need of a 1911 whisperer on a couple competition guns …

Never met him, but I've read enough posts by him to make me wish I had reason to. I currently only have one 1911 pattern, and it's probably not one that 1911 loyalists approve of. That could be in part from absorbing the wisdom of words displayed on screen. I've come to understand, I'm a 1911 enthusiast for historical and aestheic value only.

But just from reading John's wealth of knowledge, it's inspiring to see someone give out a lifetime's worth of experience freely to folks who seek it.

Seem like a real gem of a human, among the many that frequent this forum that I may never have the honor of meeting.

I never met him and did not know his name until this thread. I had read many of his posts, on a previous forum, and it was obvious that he knew what he was talking about. There was a thread, and someone was arguing with him (was that you @Booger?), and I posted “Tuner, you have a lot of patience” and he replied, “It’s tough sometimes”.

I don’t own a 1911 and never will but I admire someone who has a great deal of knowledge, on a subject, and shares it freely.

It very well could have been. I've openly admitted it, I was kind of a jerk because at the time I confused his knowledge with conceit. But over the years I read what he posted, considered it, and then witnessed it personally. When I reached out to him for help, he was a gentleman regardless and I had an amazing time meeting with him as he trouble shot my 1911. Within the first 5 minutes of him messing with it he took the slide off in a way I didn't know was possible and I uttered the words "It can do that?"

He is what he is. People like him or they dont. Though I am sure he and his pups dont really care.

I couldn't help but literally lol at this. I had a double stack 10mm RIA that wouldn't run one mag without jamming. I just sold it.

With that said. I have never once had to take a glock to someone to get ot to run.

If 1911s were made by Colt's Manufacturing and no one else for over 110 years, Glocks would be second class. Oh, wait...

It made me wonder how many folks on CFF have been there to get problems solved, or just to visit. I think there might be more than I imagined!

A lot of people have undoubtedly availed themselves of John's generous help. I started reading John's posts on 1911 forums a couple of decades ago. When I took a flyer on a Rock Island, which was not so well known then, he graciously agreed to inspect the gun. John really impressed me by making (and explaining) tiny adjustments of different sorts as he went through the gun.

While John subsequently helped me with some other 1911s, I also participated in a couple of his clinics. Many others attended his '1911 clinics' and learned the secrets of 1911s around his kitchen table a half-dozen folks at a time.

Finally, John is incredibly patient with others. I had a Colt with an improperly milled breech face that I took to John. He could have probably fixed it in a few minutes, but I insisted on learning and doing it myself. He loaned me the tool needed to work on the gun, explained exactly what needed to be done, and bid me to come back for a QC check when I thought I was done.

Did I mention how much he loves dogs?

Y’all gonna keep this on topic? If you wanna the the difference go start a thread somewhere else
