Social Distancing oxymoron

Social distancing specifically refers to keeping (in this case) 6ft apart when in public spaces. That's why "social" is part of it. Social distancing isnt the same thing as staying at home. It means when you are in a social setting, you practice distancing.

My personal teeth-grinding "favorite" is herd immunity. It carries a lot more than the superficial message, don'cha think?

I might be a little older and my way of thinking is a bit different than most.

I have an different understanding of "herd immunity".

what "herd immunity" is a old military understanding about craping in the military.

while you are in the military you are exposed to many strange things both by sight and by smell.

one of your "buddies" drops a depth charge in the head and no one hears it or smells it.

that is "herd immunity" .

all the "herd immunity" talk is just crap.

Social = society.
In society keep some distance

Stupid term that was stolen and repurposed...it used to mean when you are socially "close" to someone like your family or "distant" like with strangers

Somehow it seemed much catchier than the more appropriate "physical distancing" and humans being the sheep that we are...it now has a new meaning

Social =
  1. ADJECTIVE
    social (adjective)
    1. relating to society or its organization
  1. NOUN
social (noun) · socials (plural noun)
    1. an informal social gathering, especially one organized by the members of a particular club or group.
Distancing =
  1. VERB
    distancing (present participle)
    1. make (someone or something) far off or remote in position or nature.

"Make something relating to society or its organization, such as informal gatherings or one organized by members of a group or club, remote in position or nature"

In other words, what us introverts have been doing for years is now recommended...so I dont wanna do it.

Also...not an oxymoron

We are printing a bunch of social and physical distancing signs for businesses, along with the little arrows to follow the right path, lol.

I will probably be fired my first day back at work. I will hug friends I haven't seen in months.

Distancing be danged.
I've hugged exactly 2 people since February....sad, isn't it?
I'm not a "natural" hugger, but I've gotten used to hugging my friends, and not to be able to do that is terrible.

mandated social distancing is social conditioning. The effort to dehumanize basic human interaction and masking of faces is to prepare us to start killing other - change my mind.

Certainly possible. I'd also suggest the effort weakens the communal ties between individuals, making us more accepting of the "Do it to Julia!" moment. I am tempted to say that I can imagine seeing that effect -- however slight -- right here on CFF lately. Could just be me ...
