The South Carolina House passed its second expansion of the right to carry firearms this year, this time a measure that would allow a person to carry a handgun openly regardless of whether they have a permit.
The measure, passed Wednesday in a 69-47 vote, has been aggressively opposed by some of the state’s top voices in the law enforcement community.
And the state Senate, despite being GOP-controlled, is unlikely to debate such an expansive bill. Instead, the upper chamber is more likely to vote on a similar measure passed by the state House weeks ago that would allow legal gun owners to carry open in public, but only with a permit.

I don't have high hopes with the State Senate but here's a draft letter for SC residents to send to your State Senator

I should never have to ask permission for my God-given right to self-defense.

“Permit-less” carry needs to be your top priority.

I want you to fast-track it by voting to put it on Special Order.

If you have to bypass the Judiciary Committee, do it.

The State Senate did this in 2019. And there are more Republicans in the Senate now than there were two years ago.

The Governor already said he would sign a “permit-less” carry bill into law (like 20 other states have).

The final hold-up is the State Senate.

Get it done. No more excuses.

The South Carolina Constitutional Carry Act has passed the House. The Governor has said he will sign it if it makes it to his desk. The Senate bills sit in the Judiciary Committee and have seen no activity. I don't believe that either version has even been put on the Committee calender for hearings. The Judiciary Committee makeup is 15 Rs and 8 Ds. Now is the time to write not just your Senator but every member on the Committee.

The number of states with Constitutional Carry has gone from 18 to 20 in just the past few weeks. Strike while the iron is hot!
