Spartan Safe files bankruptcy

Sorry, I couldn’t figure how to copy the news link, but I read Spartan Safe of Kernersville has filed for bankruptcy. I hope none of our family and friends lost money with them.

I ordered Fatboy Jr Extreme from them on July 5. Was told 8-10 weeks for mfg. and then 4-6 weeks for delivery. Ok, that puts me ~ 3rd week of October. called at end of October. Well it seems that the production is behind, and will most likely be toward end of Nov. Ok, I can hold a bit longer. Check right after Thanksgiving, via email. Redirected to refund page on Spartan website. Well, $%@#$. 2 days later get a letter in the mail showing they had filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

I called Liberty and left VM not expecting anything. They called back on 12/9 and told me that Spartan had placed a PO for the safe on 7/31 for the unit, however, they did not pay for it so it never was mfg or shipped. Ok.

In the meantime, I had called CC company, explained issue, didn't tell them about bankruptcy, just that I never received my merchandise ordered. Gave them all information, date, time, amount, transaction number etc. We will look into this and if we have any questions, call you or request more information.

Got my account refunded the next day for full amount.

We have one here in Clemmons, as well.

I’ll do some checking, but sounds like it’s a safe bet they may be BR.

They are. All stores are permanently closed. I rode by the one in Mebane right after I got.rhe letter, store was empty.

Well played. Just know that what you got is a preferred distribution, that is a payment to an unsecured creditor before the rights of senior creditors have been satisfied. The bankruptcy court can legally reverse that distribution in most situations. If I was in your shoes I’d make it as difficult as possible for them to do that, I’d cancel that card and close every account with the issuing bank. They could still make you pay, but it’s more work for them to chase you than it is to reinstate the CC charge.
 
Wow, this hits close to home but not as close as peewee. Ordered a safe back in Sept 2021 and had it delivered Jan 2022. Looks like I narrowly missed it and it’s a shame to see folks are losing out on hard earned cash. Seems they should be made right and the company take the brunt.

Coworker going through the same, very similar timeframe and contacts, maybe a week behind with the bank, seems he'll be waiting for whatever scraps the court distributes.
 
Damn, I was just reading more about this the other day... I went to school with the architect of this whole scam.

Right before filing for bankruptcy he created a few new LLCs, I assume to hide money in, but seems that's an old trick that doesn't work.

Hes got million dollar houses, rich wife that does fake philanthropy, the whole nine yards.
 
If you have a claim in bankruptcy, make sure it is filed with the court. You’d be surprised how often little guys get paid because the large creditor would rathet have a clen process. Doesn’t happen 100%, and maybe not 50%, but often enough thatbit’s worth the troublemto file.
