I saw the thread below about using SRP in pistol, successfully. What about the opposite? I've got a decent amount of both regular and magnum SPP, but zero SRP. I'd like to shoot some 223 and I'll use varget. Wondering if any of you guys have any success and what your thoughts are.

I've heard the SPP primers cups are too thin to use in a rifle. You risk either a ruptured primer (yikes) or potential slamfire (also yikes).

Not trying to solicit a transaction, but I have some Federal 205s I'd trade for CCI500s if that's what you've got.

Would magnum SPP fall into that category? I honestly don't know if a magnum primer is any thicker.

I suspect it depends on the brand. Personally, I would be hesitant to try it (though maybe I'm too conservative). Heck, a lot of the reloading community is hesitant to even use rifle primers in ARs (look up CCI400s in ARs).

Don’t do it, it ain’t smart.

Appreciate the responses. I guess I'll just keep hoping I get to be one of the lucky ones that gets ahold of a 5 minute window when powdervalley has them available. :)

Have you ever noticed a little firing pin ding on your .223 primers after chambering a round?
