I was in a local gun shop yesterday and they had small pistol primers in stock. I was very excited. I asked for a 1k and then just casually asked how much. $200 a thousand! I politely told him I didn’t want them. He said that was the going rate. I guess I’ll be waiting a little longer to buy some. Anyone else seeing them in stock?

Going rate on gunbroker, but anywhere else online is even half of that after hazmat and shipping.

whatever store you went in sucks.

“That’s the going rate” for gunbroker, gougers, and those paying $150/k. 🙄

We are seeing ammo come back and prices dropping so when the heck we gonna see primers available at a reasonable price?

When the stores can't move products at the inflated prices. The problem is there's some willing to pay that price.

Added: Not saying I'm against people spending their money, how and on what, just explaining why the price is still high.

Yep, a guy told me he paid a $100 for a # of Varget. That has to stop. Last 5000 WW SRP's I bought from Midway were $30/1000. Down to my last 1000. I'll quit shooting B4 I pay anywhere close to that. I have other hobbies and interests. At my age, napping is always a good alternative.

We just have to be patient and wait it out. We can survive without their products. They can’t survive without our money. They know the roller coaster is about to reverse and go the other way, and they’re expecting it. As the stock of $100/1000 dwindles and retailers stop paying the inflated prices, the supply will quickly overtake the demand.

As much as I love to crank on a press, I’m occasionally finding 9mm for $17.00/50. I’m buying 5-10 boxes every time I see it, and it is becoming more frequent. The market waxes and wanes on, and prices will come down.

Please tell us what shop was charging that price.

No way....... I'm willing to pay a little more than normal but not that much!

I assume companies that produce ammo and primers balance things with a moderate overage for retail sales of primers given normal production volumes. With covid stuff they don’t really know if their supply chain chain is going to deliver so they build primer inventory to help ensure their ammunition production next week/month. As ammo gets normal primers will come back.

I predict a short period about 6 months after the midterm where prices will be as low as they’re going to get before the buildup to the next presidential election.

Found 3 bricks of primers at the last big Raleigh show for 70.00/ brick. Didn’t think to make an offer. Even though I have primers I might pay 50.00/brick but I would have to be totally out to pay crazy prices. Guess that’s what the scalpers are counting on.

I don't believe primers are going to return any time soon. The company that owns most of the US brands recently said they expect a 15% price increase (above what it is right now) and no new orders shipping on primers.

I watch these closely since I buy and resell. Most shops, when they get some, only sell one brick at a time, sometimes 2 depending on brand. The going rate, right now, from brownells (they will have some almost every week) is about 75-80 per brick. Then add in hazmat, tax, and shipping... you're at 125 a brick. So far, the ONLY place (for the most part) that ever get any, anymore, is Brownells, MidwayUSA, PowderValley, and Natchez. Personally, I don't try and gouge, just make a small profit that goes right back into the gun industry. I also will help anyone and show them how I do it. If you sit in front of a computer all day and have everything setup to immediately move the second they drop, you can get some here or there. But again, the average price now is 125.

I 'used to' stop in on my way back from Raleigh.
Same here, I never stop there anymore.

I find it interesting that some of the people that make the argument “it is a free market and they can charge whatever they want” will take issue with anyone that says they will never shop there again. I am free to shop wherever I want, for whatever reason. “It is just business” is a very narrow viewpoint. There is more to a customer relationship than the strictly-business aspect, and that is hard to put into $$$.

If push comes to shove I’ll give powder valley $70/1,000 as long as I can buy in bulk again. I won’t pay it with a 1,000 limit then add in shipping plus hazmat. I understand they don’t have the quantity yet - I’ll wait.
