There have been some threads recently regarding various karambit style knives. I'm a fan. I own a number of them and have enough training to be effective with them. I've even made a fixed blade karambit for myself that fits my hand like a glove. I guess it should though since I made it to fit my hand lol.

But for those not sold or trained/comfortable with the full karambit concept there is an alternative for a rapid deployment finger ring equipped blade.

You will need a Spyderco Delica, Endura, or Matriarch with the Emerson wave feature. Then you will need an appropriate "Signet Ring" accessory from Wise Men Company. Then you will need T6 and T8 torx drivers and about 15 mins.

Advantages to the Spydercos over the karambits I own and have carried:

1) Thinner and lighter in the pocket. I love my Fox karambits but it is thicker and heavier than it needs to be.
2) Spyderco's wave hook is more reliable than others I've used. Depending on the style of pants I'm wearing, sometimes the Cold Steel and even the Fox can miss deployment. That's a problem because the reverse grip doesn't give you as much of an option for manual deployment so you're hooking it again on your leg or another object to deploy. In my experience it's hard to remove the Spyderco WITHOUT deploying. It just does...
3) Did I mention it was lighter and thinner? If you're carrying a lot of crap around anyway (and don't we all?) A smaller footprint blade can be a good thing....

I believe what you have is called "good taste".

I started with the Fox (and got the matching trainer for use in class) but missed my Delica. I busted the Endura up and rather than send it back to Spyderco (they refused to sell me parts so I could fix it myself) I used it to try out the Wise ring and scales. Like the ring, hate the scales. Went with just the ring on my trusty Delica and it's back to my EDC and all is right with the world.

You're correct about the Fox, it's kinda fat. I think liner locks always are?

The Endura is way too big for me to use with a reverse grip.

Yeah the Matriarch is similarly big for use with the ring. It's more of a slasher than stabber with that recurved hook blade though so in a way it just adds to your reach a bit.

The Delica is definitely the happy place here though. I don't own an Endura.
