I apologize for nothing. Moderation in the protection of Liberty is no virtue; extremism in the defense of Freedom is no vice.

I suppose that may not sit well with some, but at the end of the day, betraying principle to go along to get along seems, to me at least, a great evil for simply going along to get along.

The original quote was from Barry Goldwater's acceptance speech at the 1964 Republican National Convention: "I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!"

Though it was way before my time (I didn’t come along until 1980), there is a whole lot that Goldwater got right, both in his politics and his criticism of the direction the GOP was heading.
