I have a JC Higgins model 45 which is basically a Marlin 336. I am trying to drift out the rear sight without much success. Drifting left to right. Brass punch and mallet. Put some Kroil on. Nothing doing. Words of wisdom or ideas? Thanks!

Use a hammer, mallet too soft.

@HJ267
Put some heat to it, do you have a hot air gun or maybe sneak the wife's hair dryer out.
Then more Kroil oil after it gets hot.
Tap some more.
Repeat the above.

You have years of build up to overcome.

All right. I’m going to try that and give it some time

Make sure the gun is secure, and tap lots or whack harder. If you don’t mushroom the brass punch you’re being too gentle.

The opposite of heat may work too. I've put stuff in the freezer based on advise I got here. The stuck pins came out after that.

I wonder if touching the sight with a small piece of dry ice would quickly shrink it?
Gotta try that sometime.

Have not seen it mentioned but , is the rifle in a vise with padded jaws ? Flat on a bench or table allows for too much wiggle and misdirected force.
